My entire restraint collection

I didn't think of posting my entire collection in my other post, so here it is. My personal favorite would be the Clink Prison Ball & Chain, I've been looking for an authentic one for a long time.

Jon, where did you get the long-chain Darby's? I recently saw a pair just like that hanging up on the wall of a bar that was built in England in the 1000's.

Are they leg shackles? With the chain being so long, and w/ the ring in the middle, were they meant to attach to a belly chain or for 2 prisoners of a chain gang? Do you know the year and origins of those shackles?

Monica, you can find these long chain Darbies all over the net. They are made in India and you can get them for about $30.00 US. Sometimes you can find them coulped with a set of their fine quality handcuffs for $40.00-$50.00. I have thought about getting a pair myself because of the length of chain on them; Houdini used a pair very similar to these on his legs when he did his packing box escape. The long chain was needed for him to be able to step into the box by himself, without having someone grab him around the body and lift him up. I have had similar problems back when I use to do my packing box escape; what a pain in the rear!!!

Next time I am on eBay I will get an item number of one of these and post it here....in fact, I may just do that right now.

Monica, try eBay item number 6592569904 . These are "buy it now" $26.95 or something like that.....again, these are all over the net, so if you want to get some, shop around and find the best price. *Be sure to check the shipping cost!!! Sometimes they will have this Eastern Indian stuff REAL cheap, but they will hit you for a $30.-plus shipping cost....great trick aye?!!

I was trying to figure out if these Darbys might have had a role in the history of this old pub. There is quite a history, and much of it is displayed about the place - including skeletons, skulls, music instruments, weapons.... In fact, prisoners were captured or kept there at times. I'll track down the owner or manager next time and ask. The bartendress didn't know much about the shackles, but was impressed w/ my knowledge - a woman knowing stuff about old cuffs - LOL!

sometimes they are originals and worth a little bit more . But I agree: those on Jon's picture look pretty Indian!
