KRUGER HANDCUFFS

Can anyone tell me if the Kruger handcuffs pat. no. 1,342,334 were ever produced and if so does anyone have one in their collection?

If you mean (unless I am wrong) the handcuffs that are hinged and have an "Ace" type key lock that works in the hinge area like a finger depressed plunger, I many years ago came across a newspaper article about both the cuffs and the inventor.

I scanned this and sent it to Joe for inclusion in the soon to be released "Handcuff Annual".

I do not know if there was room to put it in or not but it is an interesting read complete with multiple photos of the cuffs in operation.

The patent you refer to is for a cuff by Mr. Kruger. It looks like a Bean Giant, but uses a combination lock on the edge, in the center of the cuff. It was never manufactured.

The cuff I mentioned is different but just as rare.

The cuff is featured in the booklet US handcuffs vol one by Karl Roper. He says it's an Ace ( tumbular or radial pin cylinder) however his mistake has been taken up my others.
As Stan says it is a combination lock. And what appears to be the pins of a Ace lock by Roper are the index marks for the combination dial.

You are right it is a really neat cuff.

Here is a copy of the article you sent. It is from a 1962 Popular Science magazine. I bought a copy off eBay a few years ago. It will not be in the Annual because I did not want to worry about copyright issues.

I contacted the family of the designer MANY years ago, and they did not have samples, and the cuff was never commercially made.....Unfortunately. Someone must have the one in the article.

I got a phone call from someone who thought I was talking about the Kruger cuffs. It was the family of the Thompkins cuff that I contacted. I recently tried again, and I can't find any family members.
