Yes, without locks, especially easy to escape from. Hence the name "escape special", I suppose.

This type of restraint is very common amoung Escape Artists today. You will find many suing them as legitimate handcuffs when they are not. Escaping is incredibly simple in most cases.

What the above picture does not show is the size of the loop. The larger the loop, the less effective the restraint is, or the more gimmicked it could be considered to be.

If it is the Mr. Escape special (I'd never heard it called that) the small loop size makes it difficult to escape from (but possible) I tried one myslef, and it did not compare to its' larger looped cousin.

Here is a cool picture I found on the net of some old guy locked up in this type of "escape shackle". For those of you who were unsure of how these were applied, this photo should clear things up. The guy in the picture looks kind of familiar.....he kind of looks like that guy who runs the bogus trivia contests online and then refuses to send the prizes out to the winners.
