1/6 scale escape artist action figure with tiny Palmer handcuffs!!!

Here are a couple of pictures of my Steve Santini action figure. Notice the world's smallest hand-made Palmer handcuffs on him. I will try to get a close-up picture sometime in the future. (Just for the record, I did not make the other set of handcuffs (the modern swing through cuffs) that are attached to the chest belt).

This is a small part of the Dark Master Action Figure Play Set that I hand made/customized. It is a one of a kind set that took me almost 90 man hours to complete from start to finish.....and no, it is not for sale. Nothing against Steve. I can appreciate anyone who can do what he does and make a living in that business. I'm a mere hobbyist, ya' know? So, I don't want SS to think I have anything against him or that I'm being judgemental. I just really enjoyed diarama - no matter who it is about; it made me laugh this morning! Thanks for the vote of confidence, he who will not leave his name! I spent so much time on this because Santini is an icon in the escape world and I felt that he was worthy of becoming immortalized in plastic. Only the truly great ones become action figures! So, now we have Houdini and Santini!

That said, let's get back on track.....aren't the little Plamer handcuffs cool?!! They come apart sort of like the real ones, but the figrue's hands have to be removed to put them on or take them off. The two cuffs, when snapped together, are real strong so I have a little key that I use to "unlock" them. I chose to make Palmer cuffs because Steve actually uses a pair of original Palmer cuffs for the "Dead Man Walking Escape".....and also, because they are my favorite. To heck with the California Highway Patrol! The last time I was in California, I got pulled over by one of these guys. When I asked why he pulled me over, he said it was because I was in the "car-pool lane". I asked him what was wrong with that and he looked over at the empty passenger seat and said that there was only "one" person in the car. I leaned over towards him, motioned towards the back of the car, and whispered...."Look in the trunk." And as a bonus, I got to see his handcuffs....very close up! Those California Highway Patrol Officers have NO sense of humor!!! LOL!

I have found in recent times that there is a whole community of people who rework existing action figures into specialty items. The end results vary according to skill and subject matter, but I think it is interesting that companies are producing Houdini figures at all, its not like hes a sports hero or army man.

The impressive work is the miniature handcuffs John Bushey has shown at the INDY and California conventions - astounding work that won raves from everyone who handled them.

Bruce you are correct, The miniature cuffs that John made are truly a work of art. I have had the pleasure to take take them out of their frame and "work" them. Not only do they function but the detail and finishing is something one needs to to see to believe. Kudos to John for his project and the same to you on your forthcoming piece of work.

As far as I know the Palmer cuffs come in five standard numbers.
Some collectors have all five sizes.

Joe the Palmer cuffs on the action figure are 1/6 scale of a size "4". However, they are custom made so they do not fall under the Palmer size code, so I will deem them a size "17".

Marie, the straitjacket is a 100% hand made replica of Santini's Posey Transport straitjacket. To my knowledge, it is the only one in existance.

Mr. Baker, first off, let me say thank you for putting your name on your post....that is the first step to true honesty. Next, I am sorry that you do not think the figure resembles Mr. Santini, however that is the first time I have heard this from anyone. You will be happy to know that the action figure I am making of YOU will look a little more dead on.....complete with a Challenge Belt (to challenge the Santini action figure with), a cane, and a very 70's looking jumpsuit. I am also considering making a very special set of tiny handcuffs just for this figure. <WINK>
