Hiatt Value Question

Hello,
I was just given a set of Hiatt cuffs and I was wondering if anyone could tell me ANYTHING about them. I'm not a collector so I'm kinda clueless.

They have
"Hiatt" on the top of one side
"Best" under that
"Warranted Wrought" under that.

Then number 228 under that.

There's an "H" on each end where the cuff locks.

There's a number "1" on the opposite side near where the actual chain connects the two shackles.

the key has: "296" & "1" with "Hiatt" under it.

Does anyone have any clue. They look to be an older style. The gentleman who handed them to me said he's had them for a while.

Hiatt Darby cuffs like the ones you describe are old, but not rare. They likely would have been made in the latter part of the 19th century through about the 1920s. In the 1920s they started adding "British Made" to the cuffs. Since you do not mention this mark your are likely older than that.

Such cuffs sell for $50-$75. More if it is a particularly nice example or if it has unusual markings. Compared to the modern reproductions they are a bargain.

Ah I knew I forgot something. They do say British Made on them.

Not looking like I got something of much value then, huh?

I would have to agree with Joe here; these cuffs are not worth a great deal of money. However, if you wish to part with them, just drop a couple of photos here and an "accepting offers post" and I am sure someone will be more than happy to add these cuffs to his or her collection for a fair price.
