Dad's handcuffs

I inherited my Dad's cuff's from when he was a polic Chief in Wyoming back in the depression. (1929 thru 1935) Can't find the key...

They are Peerless, serial number 97090.

Curious if they are of any value to anyone that may collect them.

all thigs have a value, condition is the one vital criteria, dont worry about the key, cannons can help, as could any good locksmith, check out other collectors its tough guess a price, it depends how bad they need them, and we all need em bad....lol...i wont recommend e-bay for a price check, way too much junk/overpriced stuff there!...a picture would help, someone here would like them im sure...(like me!).....c.

Since your dad was a police chief, the value may be raised by reaching beyond just the handcuffs and gathering other items you may have. Many persons collect badges and law enforcement equipment. Authenticity and pedigree increase the value. If you have his chiefs badge, that would be the premier piece. Other badges from his career (Deputy Sheriff, Patrolman, Sergeant, etc.) would be great. Identification or commission cards, award or training certificates, business cards and newspaper clippings increase the value. Uniforms, letters, etc. are other options.

If you have only the cuffs, check with the newspaper for the town, for which he was chief, for archived articles and city records pertaining to his appointment. Old police reports are probably saved, microfilmed or computerized.

Assembled into a display in a shadow box, the collection of memorabilia would chronical your fathers life as a peace officer and public servant.

To gain an approximation of it's value, hang it on the wall and invite your adult son/daughter to look at the collection, then look them in the face when you discuss selling the collection. When you see the look of concern, distress and horror in their face, you will realize the value. Priceless.

I'm not much of an expert, but those cuffs are probably worth in the fifty buck range. They're not all that special, and Peerless made a jillion of 'em. I'd argue they're worth more as a sentimental item than as a cash cow. That is, unless there is something unusual about that model. If you post a photo, the REAL collectors here will probably make a fool outta me, and tell you their real value.

Don't worry too much about the key. If they are the tubular key type, having a round keyhole with a post in the center, they take a universal key. You can buy keys from Discount Handcuff Warehouse, Galls, or eBay.
