Unknown modern Japanese (?) handcuffs

When searching for S&W 100 photos I came across by chance on some Japanese site where I found, apart from well known cuffs, few photos of handcuffs that look like modern Masuri handcuffs. They look like a very well made handcuffs the place for double locking means is situated in the same place as Takeda/Masuri but the lever has been removed. The key bit looks identical like in S&W 104, one of the cuffs have different key. Note also that the "sun" symbol engraved on the lockcase is very simmilar as in the old Japanese cuffs.

I wish you hadn't put up these pics. Now I will have to track down someone who translates Japanese, and find the company that makes the colored cuffs. they look new and very interesting. Anyone know anything about them?

I already have the names translated, but most are shown as old style or restricted style for National or Tokyo police. We need to find a manufacturer and hope they are not restricted to Government issue only.
Any known collectors in Japan ???? I sold to one several years ago, but don't have the records.

I wrote to the fellow very early this morning.
I have not received a reply as yet, but am hopeful that he will.
Perhaps we should take a poll and see how many cuffs we want collectively between all of us.
It is jumping the gun a bit as we don't know if they can be available, but if it is possible, we will have an idea of how many he should purchase.
Stan, if you are willing, maybe they can be shipped to you and you distribute them around.
If this is a task you do not want to deal with, I will volunteer to do the job.
I hope it works out where we all get at least one of each cuff.

When I was stationed in Japan I got to examine handcuffs carried by the Fukuoka Ken (Prefecture or State)Police.

They were of fairly robust steel, swing through single arm, utilized the "star whell" type of locking for the single arm, did not double lock (that I know of), marking of Fukuoks Ken Police in Kanji and a serial number was stamped into both sides, used a pin tumbler non grouved key, much like the key that used to be used here on cash registers in gas stations, just push it in and then when the key came to it's stop at the shear line, the squarish "plug" could be pushed in further and activate the lock mechanism.

The most intersting part was that The Key Was At the Police Station, the officers did Not Carry One.

Mark: I think you are jumping the gun. I also emailed the guy who runs the Japanese forum. The translation for most of the pictures shows that the cuffs are no longer used. Let's get a reply and see if anything is available and the prices before I agree to anything.

On those Japaneese cuffs it looks as the tip of the key is used to double lock the handcuffs.

How is the double lock removed? By use of the tip again in ther opposite direction, or by use of the key in the keyhole?

Sorry, I can't answer you the question, I don't have any idea how do they work, as I said before, I found this site quite randomly. As for me, they do look too superb to have the same system of double locking as in the old Takeda's, but on the other hand, the cuffs have a gear covering the ratchet, so there isn't a requirement of high secuirty deadlocking - after all you won't shim them even if bypassed the dl pin.

Double locking is important for safety though - preventing the cuffs getting tighter once correctly applied.

I was looking around this Japanese collectors site, although I can't read it and haven't tried the on line translators, but I did notice the rope. I remember reading about it being an ancient police art and closely gaurded secret of how they use and tied the knots.

I purchased the rare Edo cuff from this seller. He sells on consignment and has to deal with the owner. I emailed him about the recent listings but have not heard from him. Remember, he is only the middleman and he did some good negotiations for me on the Edo cuff.

I picked these up on EBay recently. They aren't in the greatest condition, but they seem to be the same manufacturer and they have markings that aren't on any of the other cuffs in this thread.
