Hi Joe.

I was wondering how many books were printed. Is there enough readership around the world that would enjoy and therefore purchase this book?
My guess would be at 200 to 250 but I hope that it is greater than that.
How many of your British Handcuff books were sold?
Do you have any knowledge of these being added to either a magic library, such as the Magic Castle or any public libraries?
I was just curious as to the numbers of people who would read books on the subject other than the regular collectors and escape artists.

I sure hope it arrives Monday or Tuesday as its delay was too long and unfortunate.
Hope they become easier to produce in the future.

Hi Mark

There is no simple answer to you question, because I am not dealing with a standard printer. I can do reorders anytime without paying a huge penalty.
So if the Annual sells well, I can meet the demand. On the other hand if no one is interested I don't loose my shirt.

There have been less than 100 of the British Handcuffs book sold so far. But I expect the demand for the Annual to be considerably greater.

The production of the next Annual should be easier (I hope) because people will now know a better idea of what I am looking for.

to see so many friends' articles! My thanks to Joe for all his hard work, and wonderful job putting it together. Hey Michael, why didn't you include one of those Berliners with each book? Would have been a nice addition. Great photos, articles, very interesting variety, and informative as well. Couldn't ask for more. I can hardly wait until next years!

By the way, does ANYONE out there own the Joe Miller book
on handcuffs, copyrighted I believe in 1921??? I'm working on writing a bit on books/pitchbooks on escape artist and handcuffs. I'm trying to document the existence of this book, and need a scan/photo/photocopy of the cover, title page, publisher, and number of pages. Can anyone help??

Well, Tunisia was a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there.
They have ebay but the only things they sell are Marlin Leg Irons, Stotz neck collars and Bean Thumbcuffs.
They also have ferocious annual eating deer over there as well so I came back home. When I got there, all I got in the mail is bills and ....my book.
It is GREAT!!! I love the articles and there is more of them than I expected. Thanks go out to all that contributed to the book. I will enjoy reading your articles very much.
Michael, I really liked your Berliner article. It is nice to see another one with the added welding on it. I have another variation of that and thought that it was one of a kind. I guess the addition was more widespread than I knew.
Guenter, I liked seeing your Stotz leg iron again.
Stuart, I am glad that no flowers were injured in the making of your article.

Oh my - this has been in my hands since Monday (Sorry Mark!), I carry it to work each day and reread it over lunch. Amazing wealth of information and the terrific photos to back it up. I used to dread seeing anything spiral bound, but I found that being able to fold the page over allowed me to read it on the way home, the other people on the bus who could make out the photos sure gave me some looks.

Bruce, Your embarrassment from reading the annual on the bus reminds me of the very first time I got on the internet.
I did not own a computer nor did I even know how to work one when I went to the mall to do some shopping. In the middle of the mall, a cable internet supplier had a bunch of computers on stands arranged in a big circle. It took me a few minutes to figure it out but once I was able to navigate around, the first thing I searched for was handcuffs.
Yossi's site came up and I was glued to that screen. I had never seen so many handcuffs.
It took me a while to realize that several people were making comments about my viewing. I recall many of them saying "look at that guy...he is looking at handcuffs". I finally got embarrassed and walked away. A short time later we got a computer of our own. I still feel like I am closet collector unless I am hanging out with cops or with you fellas.
Too bad handcuff collecting is not as conventional as coin collecting.

John B. I really enjoyed your French Letter Lock Cuff Story. I know the story about Houdini changing the code on the cuffs to F R A U D. You convinced me that it is another Houdini myth. May that story R I P.

One thing I have noticed from looking at all the faces in the annual is that everyone looks so young. Joe, I did not know that you were skilled in airbrushing.

I have quite a few more articles to read so I will be hoping to get some more quiet time soon.

Hooray!

Finally my Annual arrived today! The airmail envelope was stamped Jan. 28, 06 - this means that delivery took exact 3 weeks. This was the slowest airmail sending from USA, which I ever got!

But it was really worth waiting. The book is great on first sight and I am sure that it is even greater on second. I hope that we will see a 2008 Annual. Please, Joe, tell us soon, if you plan such a project, so I can start thinking about an article.

Hi fellow collectors,

Jack Tanis read my article about Heid&Roth nippers in the Annual and wondered, why the 1964 patent number is lower than the one from 1951. So I studied the patent papers once again and saw that I made a mistake! The 406039 was the number of the Patentantrag (patent application) from 06/08/1964 and on the last of several pages stand that the patent was actually granted on 08/06/1964 (same date-numbers but vice versa) and the patent number is 1898348. I guess that the patent applications started from one after WW2, but not the patents themselves. I am sorry for this mistake.
