The cover on one of the hinges on a pair of Smith & Wesson Model 94 handcuffs has become lost. S&W won't send me one but offers to inspect the handcuffs to see if they can be repaired if I send them. It looks like it just presses into the opening to hide the hinge. Any ideas or should I just send them the cuffs.

#2Hi, I believe it to be a very little known fact that the rivet on the later model 94's is not actually a rivet. It is a decorative cover or finnial. The bow rotates on a machined bushing not unlike a precision made roll pin. The two rivet end caps are inserted and pressure fitted into the bushing and pressed down with some degree of force. They can be removed with a screw driver or similar tool. If one were to drop a pair of these cuffs, one of the caps can fall off and get lost.
I would send your cuffs back to the factory and see if they could find a replacement. It seems silly to send them as they ought to know what that part is. Whether they have any left in stock is a good question, but they certainly don't need your cuffs to find out.
I know Ian could make this part for you, but how much is something you should write to him about.
