Copy of Hiatt patent for Bean handcuffs

I just received a copy of the 1910 Hiatt patent for their version of the Bean handcuffs. I was sent to me by Phil Hilton who found it in the Manchester public library. Thanks Phil!

The patent was issued to Alfred Duckworth Melson, a wonderful name. Has any one heard of Melson?

I didn't get this from the Manchester Central Libray, though that's where it was lodged back in 1910. I found it online with no mention of Hiatt in its sales description. I bought thinking it would be interesting, without being aware of just how interesting it would really be.
