This is a spin off from the most painfull handcuff mistake. What was the longest period of time you have spent handcuffed and what where the circumstances?
When I was 16 my parents went on vacation and left me alone in the summer. I put a lomg chain around my waist and locked it at the front with a pair of handcuffs run through the lock shackle the remainder of the chain was long enough to lock a pair of anklecuffs to the and but it pulled at the chain so that my ankles where rather close together I got a long chain from the garage and padlocked it to the back of my waist and locked the other end to the pipe under the bathroom sink then I clamped the ankle cuffs snugly around my ankles and my wrist and put on a pair of thumb cuffs. I could walk all around the house if I took the rite path. After an hour I got bored and wanted to take the cuffs off when I relized that I had left the keyring with all the keys in the garage when I went to get the chain. Well I tried to break the drain pipe in the bathroom to no avail. For the next 6 days was able to eat potatoe chips if I poured them on the table I laso got a few things that where on the lower shelves of the refrigerator and the kitchen faucet was a lever so I could manover it with my mouth for drinks. I was able to pull my pants up and down with difficulty but could not wipe. I could not reach the phone to call for help because it was mounted high on the wall. On the seventh day I found a hammer in the kitchen drawer and finnaly broke the pipe just a day before my parents returned. Needless to say I diid not want to play with handcuffs for about a week after that!

I'm not exactly sure how long I was handcuffed, but when I was around 9 or 10 years old, my brother sneaked into my room at night after I had gone to sleep and handcuffed me to the bed using a pair of handcuffs my dad used in his security guard job. Of course, I didn't find out I had been handcuffed until I woke up. I'm guessing it was at least six hours. I actually got out of them without having to yell for someone (sibling rivalry prevented that...wasn't going to give my brother the satisfaction!). I don't remember how I got out, but the look on my brother's face was priceless!

This is a spin off from the most painfull handcuff mistake. What was the longest period of time you have spent handcuffed and what where the circumstances?
Hi,

I VERY clearly remember the longest time I spent in a pair of handcuffs.

In fact, I still have the scars on my wrists to remind me!

Back in the 1980's in Midland, Ontario, a locksmith there named Bill Evans took me up on a standing challenge for anyone to make a set of handcuffs from which I could not escape.

Evans created a custom designed rigid set of cuffs that looked rather like a Mullenfeld ("Dortmunder") German cuff.

There was absolutely no flexibility between the cuffs and they deadlocked, with the key, to each notch of tightness.

They did not ratchet shut so shimming them was 100% out of the question.

In all, he spent more than 100 hours over a number of months crafting them by hand in his locksmith shop.

The cuffs were made out of plate steel sections he welded together and they contained a pick resistant Abloy lock cylinder mechanism.

The challenge for me to escape was undertaken at the offices of a Midland, Ontario, Canada newspaper.

I was locked in by him and then allowed to try and free myself unobserved and unassisted in the private office of the editor of the paper.

The problem was, aside from the high security lock cylinder, these cuffs although well made and heavy, were crafted from laminated plates of rather thin and sharp sheet steel. The bows were not rounded and smooth and due to the rigid nature of the cuffs they pressed painfully into my wrists.

It was very difficult to move at all while wearing them.

I spent a total of over 1 hour and 21 very painful minutes in his invention before I succeeeded in getting out of them.

And, when I emerged from the editor's office free of the cuffs my wrists were badly bruised and scraped and I had suffered at least one very deep and bloody cut on one wrist.

1 hour and 21 minutes I will always remember!

This is a spin off from the most painfull handcuff mistake. What was the longest period of time you have spent handcuffed and what where the circumstances?
Hi Michael,

No, sadly I did not get my copy.

And, even worse, the original cuffs "disappeared".

Shortly after the challenge, the guy who made them sent them off to Joe Winkler, Ontario's Abloy sales rep, who allegedly sent them to Abloy's Canadian head office in Montreal for evaluation to see if Abloy were interested in optaining license to mass produce them.

From Montreal they would have gone to Abloy's home base in Finland for study and testing.

This is the last that was ever heard of the originals.

For one whole year I waited for Evans to make me my copy of them and every time I asked him he said that he could not because he had not got the originals back from Abloy yet so he did not have the originals to use as a pattern model.

In time I just stopped asking and lost touch with Bill Evans after that as my travels took me to other provinces.

Now that I have moved back to Canada and live only a few hours from Midland, I have made inquiries of people and have discovered that Evan's lock shop has been closed for many years and no one I have spoken to seems to have any idea where he is.

Given his age at the time of the challenge I surmise he may have passed away.

This is really sad for me because of the two challenges in my career where someone actually went to the trouble to custom make a set of cuffs to test me with, this is the one pair I would give almost anything to own for purely sentimental reasons. (the other pair of custom made challenge cuffs someone made I did manage to keep).

By far these were one of the coolest and hardest to beat cuffs anyone ever challenged me with.

Somewhere in my boxes of clippings, I do have a newspaper story on the front page which has a close up picture of Evans holding the handcuffs days before the challenge.

I will try and find it and if I do I will scan it and put it up here.

Cheers, Steve Santini

You are too Modest! It's a lot of hard work to get to that level in the Media. You have to study your subject, arrange the event, inform the media through Press releases etc. Then Succeed!
Then start all over again with a new concept.
I am going through some areas that you have been and trust me I know first hand it's a lot of stink'in work!
It's a shame that there is always that "One" in the crowd that has to shoot the mouth off and question some part of the success.
Sad.....But reality.
You created and achieved your success. It is done. It is fact. All others opinions can take a hike 'cause that's exactly what they are... Opinions!

Steve, not to take anything away from your accomplishment, but based strictly on photo appearances, here's what I'd do:

The cuff swing arm teeth appear to be poorly designed - the teeth look short and don't angle backwards, and the swing arm doesn't have the requisite side groove. Also, there is no corresponding nub inside the cheek plate (to go w/ the groove) to keep the swing arm fully secured. All of these factors will allow for some inward bending of the swing arm. If I were locked in those cuffs, I would use this to my advantage by pushing (with much force and weight behind it) the tooth side of the swing arm against the side of a desk (or similar) until the arm bent sufficiently in towards my wrist to disengage the teeth from the pawl and viola! My husband and I have done this before with cuffs designed this way. And, yes, there is pain to go around.

Of course, I don't know much about those cuffs and am just looking for an angle based on appearances.

Maybe Ian could make your replica w/ softer edges? Those cuffs look way too sharp!

This is a spin off from the most painfull handcuff mistake. What was the longest period of time you have spent handcuffed and what where the circumstances?
Yeah, the entire thing had bolts as rivets that were welded in on the backside so nothing "unscrewed" and no, there was no pawl per say to disengage from the bow teeth.

The mechanism did not have a traditional "pawl" at all.

Ian knows what I am talking about here.

Besides, for the bow to bend upwards to disengage from the locking mechanism the cuff would have to be open at the top like a traditional handcuff which it was not.

It is closed.

And don't worry, there is no way anything that could possibly be said could take anything away from this accomplishment.

The pain and torture I had to go through to get these things off is simply something that can not be imagined.

At least my husband does. He has broken the chains on Peerless cuffs before and mangled some S&W's beyond what would seem possible. The P&T were more than I would allow....I had to lock him up "Monica-style" in order to prevent him from hurting himself some more. True.

This is a spin off from the most painfull handcuff mistake. What was the longest period of time you have spent handcuffed and what where the circumstances?
One interesting thing is that when I presented these back to the owner/inventor after the escape they were in a state where they were locked down much more tightly than when originally placed on my wrists, see newspaper pic, (remember, they deadlocked to each notch of adjustment), and also the creator of the cuffs could find nothing visibly wrong with them.

Meaning no broken or bent parts and the cuffs still worked perfectly.

Dear Lars,

Thank you for your willingness to help us out on this project.

The Abloy mechanism Bill Evans used for the "guts" of his challenge handcuff was a model # 3021 Abloy ,(old style keyway), padlock with brass body and case hardened shackle.

The cuffs only had one of these locks in the interior but it locked both bows at the same time.

Probably it would be a good idea to pick up 2 of these locks just in case any engineering problems should arise.

For payment details and keying instructions please e mail my private e mail address at steveshackles@myway.com

Thank you again Lars!

This is a spin off from the most painfull handcuff mistake. What was the longest period of time you have spent handcuffed and what where the circumstances?
When I was 22 I bought my first house. I had allways been into handcuffs etc. Well I found an old pair of chain gang style pair of legirons at a local antique mall and bought them. When I got a weekend off I decided to put the on. So I locked a chain to a pole in the garage and locked the other end to the chain on the legirons. The chain was only a few feet long so I could not go walkind around. Anyway I took to bolts out on the back porch and heated them with a torch. Then I took tongs and carried them to the garage and put the braclets around my ankles and pounded the bolts through the eyes in the shakles. The keys to the pad locks where in the house.I then put on a pair of hinged handcuffs with a blue box and the keys where in the house. The plan was to take a chisle and hammer and wedge the chisle between the metal and hammer it down to break the bolts. At first I was happy with my handy work I was chained up real good and I knew it would take some skill to get the shackles off. Well after an hour and a half I decided to free my self I was surprised to find that I had done a really good job of pounding the bolts, such a good job that I could not find a crack between the two peices of metal to wedge the chisel in. Then there was the handcufs I did not relize how hard it would be to manuver in them. I had forgotten to double lock the cuffs and they got real snug before I found a nail to depress the double lock mechacnism. Anyway I got real excited real fast but after the enitial shock wore off I decided that this what I always wanted and I should go with it. I ponded on the shakles for hours and got one loose after about 20 hours it must have been 24 hours or slightly more before I got the other loose. I am more carefull now!

This is a spin off from the most painfull handcuff mistake. What was the longest period of time you have spent handcuffed and what where the circumstances?
A few years ago I was having a party. Two girls were hanging out in my bed. Handcuffs were attached to the rails of the bed. They wanted me to lay down and when I need they handcuffed my right wrist to the bed. They left me there for thirty minutes and returned. Unfortunately, a key could not be found. I remained the entire night cuffed to the bed railing. One of the girls kept me company as I would continue to drink. I spent a total of 12 hours in handcuffs. A key was found the next day and I couldn't explain the excitement from the freedom. Looking at my house completely trashed and people laying on the couches, floors, and some out in my yard. I missed one good party at my own residence. Of course this story gets told when I reunite with my friends who were present at that party. Two years later down the road, a police officer detained me in handcuffs to question a incident I wasn't involved in. Someone tried setting me up but luckily they had no evidence. I was out of state during the time of the incident. He said that this was for mine and his protection for me being handcuffed. He made me place my hands behind my back and cuffed the left wrist and then the right wrist. I was compliant as I was trying not to go to jail. While handcuffed, hands behind my back I thought to myself the bed was a lot more comfortable with just one wrist and two girls chilling with me. I was in the front yard, the neighbors drove by several times thinking a big crime had been committed. As I standing there handcuffed for 30 minutes, I remember it being one of the most embarrassing moments of my life. The officer got all the information and took the handcuffs off. I had to explain everything to my family, neighbors and friends that drove by. It's all good though, I didn't get into any trouble. Situations can always be worse. Right?? lol.

Spent around 1 and 1/2 hours hooked up by small podunk town police questioning and searching my car as a waste of time when they couldn't find anything, they were nice enough to want to take myself down the station to run my information. Apparently they thought I was somebody they were looking for. Was compliant the entire time. Never double locked the cuffs so watch out for locking tight but knew I could run home for the giant pile of keys laying in my desk. At the station released from handcuffs but leg shackled to the bench when the podunk cops had a leave for a call. Spent 30 min by myself thinking if the place was on fire I was going to die
Spending casual time in cuffs is okay but realize how much someone can panic when the cuffs go on and no way to MacGyver your way out. No wonder so many freak out when the silver bracelets come out

Next time was screwing around and handcuffing myself behind my back, last time I did that I was a much lighter guy and thought I was in for the big one this time when I couldn't reach around enough for the keyhole.
20 panicked min later and bruised wrists I was feeling like an idiot but free

This is a spin off from the most painfull handcuff mistake. What was the longest period of time you have spent handcuffed and what where the circumstances?
It was many years into the past. A burglar came into my home while I was sleeping and handcuffed my right hand to my bed and started stealing my things. I know this because a loud noise waked me from the dead sleeper that I am and I realise I was handcuffed. I have an interest in hand cuffs but these were not mine. I have mainly safariland and a few others but these look different, like a round tear drop shape. I awake at about 3am. I tried to pull on them hoping they were some fake ones or toys or some such thing like this but nothing worked. My wrist was really hurting. Eventually I hear from down the stairs a manly voice shouting 'goodbye my love' which I took to be an offensive goodbye since I live alone. I tried different ways to try to reach my box of handcuffs and keys but it was on the other side of my room. At this point I had wasted another 2 hours trying to reach this while feeling anxiety and the chemicle in my body which makes my heart beat very loudly.

Finally I decided panicking was not helping so I lay there in bed and began to relax and told my self worst case I could shout and maybe someone would help. So I lay there until I were calmer. Then I think about the situation logically, safe in mind. I opened my wardrobe with my foot and managed after a while to unhook a coat hanger and bring it to the bed. Luckily I live in quite a small house and everything is close to each other. This would never work in a big house with lots of room. So I got this coat hanger and unbent it, it was wire I forgot to mention. I made a hole to put my large toe inside on one end and I made a hook on the other. It took me I believe 2 hours using my right leg to get the hook to my little cash box thing and then my left leg to try and move it properly into the position needed to grab the handle. Eventually I was able to pull the handle up high enough and get the hook inside and use my other leg to pull the box close enough to get to. Luckily my clothes which I removed when getting ready for the bed were by my bed and had the house keys and my box keys. I unlock the box and tried keys in this thiefs handcuffs. I had a few attempts but finally one of them worked. I looked everywhere and found the television set, computer, laptop, cordless phones, blender, coin collection and some other smaller things were all taken. I do not know for sure the time while I was sleeping but since waking at about 3am I had been handcuffed for about 6 or 7 hours I think now about it. Maybe 6 or 7 hours hand cuffed with a beautiful girl thief might have been better but I was just glad for my life and freedom. Now I keep handcuff keys on my keyring and in my walet every time.

I do not know the answer. I was to embarrassed to make it an official situation. I just borrowed money to buy a new computer. To this day I still do not have a television set. But as this is the hand cuff forum, I will tell you I later found these were clejuso brand I think. They looked very like that. I throw them away though because they look strangely and not pleasing to the eye and attached to a bad traumatic memory.

Check out this poor fella...

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Incarce ... niel_Chong

It was apparent until I got to the end of the story that as if it were not enough of an ordeal, he was cuffed the whole time. I doubt his well deserved compensation will be spent starting a cuff collection

I was raised by an Episcopalian Priest in New Jersey.

As punishment I was hogtied and hamshackled for up to 12 hours.

I was stripped nude and forced to lie on my stomach.

My wrists were cuffed behind my back (palm over forearm) with two pairs of S&W Model 300 handcuffs. The cuffs were double locked - one slot lock & one pin lock handcuff was used.

My ankles were shackled together with two pairs of S&W Model 110 short chain leg irons. The leg irons were double locked and run through the Martin link of a steel belly chain before being applied to my ankles.

I was forced into a hogtie position with my back arched - whilst the loose end of the belly chain was snugly noosed around my neck and secured with an American Model 5101 padlock. A second American Model 5100 padlock was attached to the chain preventing the noose from becoming larger. The arched position allowed the chain between my neck and ankles to be as short as possible.

The S&W model 300 handcuffs were attached to the chain (behind my back) using two blue box rigid cuff adapters and two American Model 5101 padlocks.

A pair of S&W model 1900 leg irons were attached over my elbow joints - securing my arms together. The leg iron chain was attached to the belly chain with an American model 5100 padlock.

My hallux toes were tightly zip tied together and bungee corded to one end of pair of Yuil thumbcuffs - the other end of the thumbcuffs were attached to my scrotum.

After 20 minutes in this position - I would confess to anything to be released.

WHAT THE HELL happened to this forum? Look back at very early posts. Lots of sharing info, lots of on topic discussion, even the off topic stuff was at least amusing. Now the bar has been lowered to bragging about which model Bostitch® staples some pedo priest used on your nuts... )))SMH(((

PLEASE TAKE THIS CRAP SOMEPLACE ELSE!!! - YOU'RE GIVING THE HOBBY A BLACK EYE!!!

Actually, instead of complaining about these trolls, I have a five-point plan to solve the issue.

Hey Joe, I'll give you $500.00 cash towards upkeep/upgrade of this website if you publicly expose who the troll(s) are.

I'm not joking, the offer is for real!

I know I'm not alone when I say I've made many friends and learned SO MUCH from this site that it bothers me to se what a handfull of trolls have done to it. Think about it...

Did anyone take me seriously? I hope you did and have given great consideration to my offer. Trolling is the worst thing to happen to high and mighty people. People who are up them selves. Pot calling the kettle folk.

Actually I was only joking about the $500

Maybe on the other hand, trolling isn't the worst thing? Maybe trolls open up peoples minds, rubbing their own noses in the waste of their own actions to other people. Drawing attention to inconsistent behavior. Drawing attention to inadequacies of antiquated forum systems. If people were less annoying, the site up with the times, trolls would be less likely to feel the need to strike and when they did you could deal with the much more effective like.

By the way in case anyone has such a real suggestion as my "I'll give you $500 to make them go away" speech, you cant get blood from within a stone. Trolls have always existed since mankind began. Whether public fora offering counterproductive points or today on the interwebs. All you can do is be decent people to each other and new guys and know if you start being offensive or short with people, that is all of the ammo trolls need to feel like they, we, should step in and make our own posts.

I spent around 8 hours with my hands cuffed behind my back while my girlfriend went to work one day. We are both interested in bondage play, specifically handcuffs. It was pretty enjoyable, and did the same to her about a week later. Just make sure they arent super tight, but tight enough you cant slip out. And dont forget to double lock!!

I WAS PLAYING WITH MY S&W Model 100 Handcuffs at a Party in my house with about 45 Friends and when I tried to remove the Cuffs the Key Broke Off! So luckily I knew that one Key fits All of the Standard Issued Model 100 Cuffs so I called the Neighborhood Police Sub Station and asked them if they would remove the Cuffs. Sounds Great Right?
Except that I had Dropped some very Strong L.S.D. a while before this Nightmare began! Killer Lights on the Patrol Cars!
So I walked over to the Sub Station and a Roomfull of Houston Police Officers were Laughing so hard that our EYES NEVER MET! Thank God!
Right before the Officer removed my Cuffs he asked me :
"Your Not Wanted are You?"
"Of Course not Sir!"
He should have Checked his Computer !
Most Definitely Wanted but just for a TRIVIAL Moving Violation!
To be honest the "TRIP" wasn't as bad as it could of and definitely Should have been! What a TRIP! Pun intended!
All because of the Cheap S&W Keys!
And that was my second BROKEN key but I never learn!
I sincerely hope that nobody was or is offended , Bored or thinks any less of me due to the Ancient Substance useage!
STAY HEALTHY AND UNCUFFED!
Later Amigos!

Recently tried on a new set of Cuffs and it took me an hour to remove them !
So I was going to try on my new "Thumb cuffs" and Fortunately I realized that they would be Impossible to remove ! As far as I can see Nobody can remove a set of "Thumb Cuffs" with or without a key! Please tell me if you have been able to do so and HOW? Your fingers will not reach the key hole! Correct?
Thank You Kindly!
