Clejuso modified swivel

Hello all,

Well, this handcuff collecting bug seems to have bitten me pretty bad, and I don't really even have a collection to speak of yet! However, I did get, on E-bay, what I thought looked like a cool pair of Clejuso cuffs, and got them for a ridiculously low price. These are the ones in the photo gallery listed as "modified swivel", where the swivel is in the center of the cuff rather than at the corner. So far, I have not been able to find much info. on this particular style, or why it was made this way. Can anyone give me any background on this cuff? Thanks!

Hello Phil,

the Clejuso cuffs you refer to were modified in the desribed manner on behalf of the police headquarters in Frankfurt/Main. I have not been able to find out why this post-factory modification was made, but have spoken with several older police officers in the Frankfurt area who were familiar with these cuffs.

Could it be possible that this modification was made so as to place the hands and wrists of the prisoner in a more normal strain free position when cuffed; especially behind the back?

This certainly makes sense to me.
