Famous and Infamous Cuffs

Hi. I check in at this site quite often and find interesting conversation about all kinds of rare cuffs. We are very good about discussing rare varieties, their manufacturers, dates, and locations. One topic, that has not ever been discussed here,that I find interesting, is about current or even older cuffs that were used in the arrest of famous or infamous criminals. Do any of you fellow cuff collectors have any documented cuffs that held any mass murderers, Watergate conspirators, O.J., Michael Jackson, Rodney King, or other bad guy in general? I would not mind adding such a cuff to my collection.
Who has the Lee Harvey Oswald cuffs. I'd like to get my hands on those!
If anyone owns or has seen such a historical cuff, please write about it.

MARK: great thinking, but i think you may have just opened up a can of worms !! before long ebay will have an item a day listed that was used on someone famous or infamous...about 17 years ago, i was offered a so called pair of handcuffs that was used on OSWALD....i do not remember what the asking price was, but i believe it was under $2,000.... i did not buy them as the ONLY documentation was a letter from a sheriff ( i think ) in the DALLAS, TX. police dept who of course was no longer there.... i asked the seller if that person could be contacted & of course the answer was no--now deceased....nor could any relative be contacted....so with that, i did not bite !! even if the former sheriff could have been contacted, i would have asked him to provide me with a contact person who was working with him there at the time OSWALD was cuffed....then i would have contacted that person & got another letter & what other PROOFS that i could get...then, i would have gladly purchased the cuffs.....buyers beware as anyone can have any other person type up a letter of authencity !!! there are times when you have to just accept things at face value, but get proof if you can....joe

Overcoming the obstacles and other problems inherent in acquiring such handcuffs would prove a virtual impossibility.

There is a feasible alternative. Most notorious crimes and the criminals who commit them become the subjects of motion pictures. Studio property departments keep detailed logs and other records of what props were used in what films, and of what characters in what films used what props.

Many studios, including major ones, are only too happy to sell incidental props for an high multiple of their original costs, and will issue reliable, bona fide certificates of authenticity accompanying the sales of given props. Indeed, this occurs frequently.

With the required effort, you probably could obtain any number of handcuffs actually used in the wide-screen arrests of the fictionalised counterparts of famous or infamous criminals. Some of the actors and actresses who played these roles have become known as well as or better than their real life models.

Hey Joe,
You were very wise in not purchasing those cuffs. I had the wonderful opportunity to attend a training seminar in Branson, Mo in which the Officer that actually arrested Oswald immediately after the assasination and the murder of a Dallas Police Officer was the guest speaker. His name is M. Nick McDonald, and even though in his late 70's , he was a wonderful speaker and I was in honored to have been able to hear his recount of history. He is very much alive, and he also very much still has the original cuffs used after Oswald almost shot him at point blank range. I aksed him about them, he chuckled and told me he is amazed by the number of people that have offered to buy them over the years. He said they were not for sale, he was somewhat partial to them. Imagine that! As for the cuffs that Oswald was wearing when shot by Jack Ruby, well , that would be an intersting search, wouldn't it? Play Safe all,
