Rankin handcuffs

Hi,

I recenty purchased a pair of Rankin handcuffs on ebay and they arrived today. They're in great condition with their original key.

Could someone give me an idea as to how common they are ? I've obviuosly never seen a pair in the UK but would like to get an idea of where they fall in say the top 100 desireable cuffs.

Any comments would be welcome.

The Rankin cuffs are pretty rare, and they are highly sought after by collectors. I would have to put them on my top "5" list.....I have always loved these handcuffs. Consider yourself lucky to own a set in such fine shape.

Hello All,

I agree; it's a great cuff to have. As you may know, these were manufactured just shortly before the adjustable designs were introduced in the US. Of course, the adjustable designs quickly came to dominate the US market.

In the US, there were only a few non-adjustable cuffs made after the Rankins. In fact, Jersey Romers (ca.1880) and Palmer Manacles (ca.1876) are the only two I can think of off hand.

Congrats on obtaining a very desirable cuff.

Pretty nice. I wonder waht their made of? Try my stainless steal test with magnet. It works evry time.

So I have to know is this other James real or not, or is that some sort of crack twards me. Magnets by the way will stick to stainless steal, (duh... Maybe that's because it's steal). If the JAMES has my email, it is me. If it don't then it ain't. Unless of course they use that too.
