plug 8 and pushing my luck

Hi,

My third and final question for tonight.

No makers names on handcuffs really gets me troubled and I wonder if anyone can help with this plug 8.

There are no names or numbers at all and the only difference between the unkown and the hiatt pictured with it is a slighly smaller key and the fact that the outer edge of the cuff is flat and the inner is curved where it contacts the wrists.

The Hiatt is curved both on the outside and inside faces. It's quite noticable when you see them together but not so noticable in the photograph.

Does anyone have a pair of named plug 8's with this flat outer face ?

Unfortunately it is really hard to identify these cuffs without a maker's mark. I have several in my collection and I have no idea who made them. The two styles you mention, flat and rounded are both pretty common. I have Hiatt and Froggatt each in both styles. It is my opinion that the rounded style is simply a later model in most cases.

My only other advice is to look at the cuffs very carefully with a very strong light. Sometimes there is a maker's mark that is very faint and only visible under strong light. I have found a couple that way. But unfortunately most times you don't find one.
