bucheimer and guardian handcuffs

My father had recently passed away and in his basment was a cuple dozen pairs of handcuffs, some are guardian and some are bucheimer and alot of bucheimer boxes. they range frome perfect condidton to some that seem to have no finsh on them at all, almost like they were never finished? but they all work. also there is a cupple of colt boxes and i found only 1 side to a pair of colt hadcuffs, just woundering what this stuff is worth and if it was worth while to sell.

The Bucheimer cuff was made by Guardian. Guardian also made the military version of the Sirchie Fingerprint Labs cuff. I doubt that Guardian made the Colt cuff, since the shape of the frame is different.

The Guardian was sold in the mid to late 1970's and early 1980's. They were expensive at $ 17.95 list price and $ 11.25 dealer price. About 2 years ago the old company stock was sold off, after the owner died, and a lady from New Jersey bought many of them and sold a bunch of them on ebay. Many looked really nice, but needed to be soaked in WD-40 to loosen them so they worked. Others were defective ones that had been returned to the factory.

wow you seem to know alot about these. so which are the other defective ones that were returned to the factory? i live in merchatville, i guess my father may have aquaried these from the owner of the factory? any idea about the ones that seem to be unfinished?

When the Guardian first came out I thought it was a really nice cuff. I think the unplated ones were never finished. None of the advertising shows them as unplated. They were sold plated. The keys were also plated.
If you want to sell it all as a lot and let someone else worry about which ones are good and which ones are bad, i would be interested. I talked to the owner of the company several times when he was making them and again years after he stopped making them.

fyi--It may not be clear in the above posts...but the above 3 mentioned models-brands (Guardian,Sirchie,and Bucheimer)were all American-made handcuffs..made in New Jersey.
The Guardians were standard-issue when I purchased them at a police-supply store in New York, in the late 1970's.

well i found a colt pair tonight when i got home form work i think ill try to throw them on ebay and see what happens, would it even be worth while to trow the other ones on? i know the colts should do half decent becouse of all the gun nuts out there, but the other ones i dont think they will do so hot. i have been giving them out latley to the guys in my department so they can have a spare pair but i still have a ton of em in the basment im guessing at least 100 to 300 pairs and i have probably a 1000keys but none of them are plated

The colts should do ok.They seem to go around $150-$300 US depending on condition. As for the servhe or bauchamer cuffs I've seen then go for 10-25 a pair on ebay, at the very least I'd recommend breaking them into smaller bunches rather than one big sale which would not net you much.

You should sell them separately. Being one who has bid on the last three pairs of Colts I can tell you that those will bring quite a bit of money. And like most people on this site will tell you, they are not that rare. But like you said, yes gun nuts help drive up the cost of them too.

But no offence to anyone from this site who may want to buy the whole group, but I agree, with the last posting, you would get a lot more for them selling them off one by one. And even at 10-15 dollars which would be the lowest I'd expect for you to get, at 300 pairs that’s a lot of money. $4,500 by my calculations and that’s not counting that the colts will go higher $150-$300.

I would love to get the chance to bid on some of your cuffs. And I think I speak for everyone on this site when I say that I'd love to fall into a collection like the one you have. It is however tragic the way you had to come about them. I too have recently lost my father. But it sounds like your father had many nice cuffs. Don't just give them away, or sell them all off together. Your father knew what he had, if you’re going to sell them, get the most you can for them.
