Anti clockwise darbys

Hi,

I have a pair of typical Darby style cuffs which open when the key is turned anti/counter clockwise. There's no makers name but the usual warranted, wrought and hard are present.

Does anyone know if anti clockwise threads were used by all manufactures or only a few ? I've never owned another pair but equally I've yet to get my first Sheffield pattern so I'm uncertain if these A.Clockwise are common or not.

The swivel is different to any of my other Darbys as is the key shape. both a subtle but diffenet and I've checked around and can't see exactly the same. If anyone can throw light on the maker I'd be obliged.

Darbies with left handed threads are unusual. I would say only about one pair in fifty, perhaps less, were made this way. I have a couple of Hiatts and one from Fields. They were the high security cuff of their day.

The Sheffield pattern cuffs came both ways as well. I have a left handed flexible cuff with a left handed key.

So your cuffs is pretty rare. To bad they are not marked. They are pegged at the bottom as one can clearly see in your photo. Nice cuff.

I've only had two pair. You are very lucky in that you have an original key. I've never had that luck and they were a nightmare to create a key for.
