Identify ? Help

Ok just got this pair of cuffs, I think they are intresting as hell, I've been through the gallery an archives I can't find anything that this fits with , looks like a UK type but clearly has US stamped on it 1885 as a date on the key. Any guesses and approx Value ?

Sorry, Matt...but your handcuffs are modern day cheap replicas of the British "darby-style" handcuff.

Worth about $15.00. Made most likely in either India or Pakistan.

Collectors would call them "junk"..but to each his own.

The "US" stamping means nothing...they can be stamped with any markings, but the cuffs are still what they are.

Sadly, they look like a typical Asian (probably Indian or Nepali) Darby knockoffs. These appear to be made in small shops for the tourist and export market. Look at the chain rings. They appear to be electrically welded. I've seen much worse ones.

A generous value would be about twenty bucks. They're probably less than half that, wholesale. The fact that someone took a set of letter punches to forge a provenance makes me look at your example less favorably. I just checked, and there's been a lot of the Darby knockoffs sold on eBay for about seven bucks, lately, although more innovatively described specemins have gone for forty. I didn't bother to see if they were all from the same vendor. If they are, it indicates a wholesale value in the three to four dollah range.

They're a nice wall hanger, and are suitable for play.

Well thank you for your responces. I bought them for play so good now I don't have to worry about breaking something Valuble.
