Peruvian Darbys ?

Hi,

I just acquired the darby cuffs from ebay which are located in Peru. Does anyone have any knowledge of such cuffs? At first glance I thought "just another set of darbys" (if such a thing exists) but to my eye there's a few differences.

The bow seems to be curved quite high above the top of the barrel. None of my other darbys come that far above. I guess this means it's a big cuff or small barrel.

The swivel also seems subtly different it looks like it has more of a waist than normal.


Any non magnetic comments would be more than welcome.

Your Peruvian Darby looks very much like the one shown below that I bought from Argentina.






The cuff I bought is very clearly marked W.R.K Solingen. When you get yours you should look and see if you can see any evidence of this mark.

Solingen is a city in German, famous for knives and swords. More relevant to us Solingen is the home of Clemen & Jung manufacturers of Clejuso handcuffs. The "so" in Clejuso stands for Solingen.

The cuff also has an odd key, but I don't think it is original.

I don't know who actually made the cuff. Do the initials W.R.K. mean anything to anyone?

Thanks for your reply and I think you may have cracked it. I new I'd seen a very similar cuff to this. The swivel is just that little different from the norm and I had spent my morning looking at other peoples collection. I'd totally forgotten about the WRK darby that had been on ebay.

Does your key open the cuffs in the correct manner or do you have to pull back on the key to retract the bolt. It looks as if the orignal key could have been damaged and the threaded portion of the key attached to a different top.

You do indeed need to pull the key to open the Darby. Just screwing it in all the way does not open the lock. It is almost certainly a home made job.

However, a standard Hiatt key opens the cuffs just fine.
