I dont think they'll be in the same price range as the Mattatuck triple that was recently sold but I've never understood the purpose of this combo.

Is it for 3 people in a huddle ? Seriously ...does the prisoner where two cuffs and his escort the third but they seem ill suited for this. A longer chain between the pair and the single would make more sense or is the third cuff used to secure the person to a fixed object ? Actually 3 people in a huddle all trying to abscond in different directions might be fun to see.

Anyone know the real reason for these old style triple combos.

The 3 handed cuff was used for all kinds of reasons. Long ago, detainees were cuffed with their hands in front and it was not uncommon to secure them to a bar that was mounted in a patrol car or on a bench at the station. It is possible to hook a pair of leg irons through the 3rd cuff in hog-tie position or with hands in front to allow for very limited mobility. Three prisoners being transported to court or jail could easily and cheaply be held by this cuff design.
I do not believe that there was one single reason that these were manufactured. I am sure that the above applications were used as were many others.

Depends on who is doing the cuffing, and for what purpose the cuffs are being applied. One configuration is to have the two hands of a prisoner cuffed front of HIM and the third cuff locked around his manhood. Crude? Yes. Brutal? Defintly. Effective? Absolutly. There are other ways to use this cuff, but this is my favorite. Nuff said. BTW, here is a photo of some other unusual 3-ways I just found on the net.
