European convention

Hi folks,
I would like to thank everybody who came to the convention. It was a very nice meeting with a lot of nice people and many items I had never thought I'dd ever get to see and handle. Many pictures have been taken so I'm sure they will turn up here or in the annual sooner or later. As discussed this afternoon, we will probably do something like this again in 2008.

Patrick, Thank you for these pictures. The clarity is is extremely good good for a mobile phone/camera.
What is unusual about the 1960 cuff?
The pair above the Stotz in pic 2 is very interesting. I have never seen anything like it. It seems to be Hungarian or Bulgarian in design.
Some very nice pieces. I am looking forward to the other pictures that will appear here soon.

my opinion is that they must somthing like czech or something like that
the inner works are almost the same like the czech folding cuffs (new ones)
the 1960 2 pair one with solid bit key and the other barrel key

What exactly is meant by "unusual 1960" handcuffs? I wasn´t there and to tell the truth I have no idea which model shall I focus on... Maybe I may help..

Hello everybody,

my family and me just returned from our trip to Antwerp, and the first thing I have to do is write a few lines.

Peter, we would like to thank you very, very much for all the work you did to make this event possible and for making it such a big success as it was! The place where the convention was held was great, and we also very much liked the restaurant where we had dinner the evening before!

Most of the people we met I had known before only through corresponcence, and it was a great experience to meet people for the first time that for a long time already had been friends!

Mark, I have no idea where the handcuffs in question come from, I even do not remember exactly where I got them, I think they came in a bunch with some other cuffs. They are made of aluminum and show no markings. The cuffs have a ratchet wheel, like e.g. older handcuffs from Hungary. Do you have pictures of those cuffs that resemble the cuffs in question?

Patrick, thank you very much again for making a key for these cuffs!

I also made pictures on the convention, but with an old-style camera, so the films need to be developed and the pictures scanned before I can post them, so it may take a few days.

Our thanks to everybody who came to the convention, we very much look forward to meet again in 2008!

WOW !! to all those who were able to attend the convention IT sure must have been fun.... YOU all make me envious & make me wish that i were still active in collecting.... i have attended many many restraint & lock shows among other types, so i sure know what i missed....congratulations to ALL those who helped put the show together which includes the spouses & significant others as i am sure that they indeeed helped... please keep the photos coming as i did spot a couple of items that i myself have never had.... thank you all !! joe

Michael,
I did notice the resemblance between those unusual cuffs and the Hungarian cuff. I don't believe I have a picture of the Hungarian cuff but fortunately I do have the actual cuff in excellent shape. They are a well made cuff and the gear action is very smooth. The Gotcha cuff has a similar design.
I am glad that you were able to attend and am looking forward to seeing your pictures. If you found anything at the show that was unusual or strange....it must be very unique!

The cuff shown in fact very much resembles the Czech prison cuff, at the convention I was able to compare it with the Czech prison cuff that Patrick had brought along. So, I am sure that the item is from the Czech republic.

Joseph, have you ever seen the cuff on the picture in your country, and if so, by which authorities was it used?

Joe, in fact there are groves in the swinging bows.

Hello All,

Petra and I spent some more nice days after the Con in the Netherlands and Belgium (where I finally faced my Waterloo). Yesterday at Midnight we returned safely in Munich.

I want to thank all for making this event possible. Special thanks, of course, go to Peter for organizing. I really hope that there will be a sequel in 2007 or 2008 where I can even met more of my fellow collectors. Next time I hope that we will have a little bit more time - I did not think that 6 hours would pass so quickly!

A few of the cuffs are mentioned by name but not hers!

I am trying to figure out how many people attended but can only come up with the following collectors:
Michael Busch and Family, Guenter and Petra, Alex Nichols, Peter, Mario, Dick and of course, Patrick. These are the only names mentioned in the 3 convention threads on this site so far.

Guenter and Petra's forthcoming pictures should be very interesting to see as they are both very good photographers.

I was supposed to attend, and had my airline tickets, hotels, etc. A few days before the conventioon I had to change my ticket to Florida due to an illness in my family. I appreciate all the effort Peter put into this show, and I hope I can be at the next convention, whenever it is. Thanks to all who emailed with their good wishes.

Hi Peter,

visiting famous 19th century battlefields starts to become a new hobby of mine . Now I was in Gettysburg (Virginia, USA - 1863), Hohenlinden (Bavaria, Germany - 1800) and now Waterloo (Belgium, 1815). I wished that I had my metal detector with me, because searching for old relicts in the soil is also a new hobby of mine since half a year.

Hello all,

What an enjoyable time it was, these six hours of the convention itself, and that is not counting all the talking in the restaurant on Friday and Saturday evening. And before leaving on the Sunday morning there even was a wee bit of sun for a few nice photos of the old town in Antwerpen.

Time permitting I want to post some photos of mine as well. The easiest way to do it would be to upload (some, not all of) them somewhere to a dedicated page on my www.fesselmuseum.de site. And as I do have quite a few photos of individual items which I like to show on my site, may I ask if anyone would disagree if I were to show photos of his objects. I know I already asked some of you, but then did not come round to ask each and everyone.

And a special thankyou to Peter who helped me sorting out my accomodation after my initial hotel booking via the web finally failed at the stage when the hotel was supposed to confirm it. Only a small detail, but a characteristic one I think.

We have just returned back after travelling 1250 miles (okay for those who live in the USA not a great distance).
I think I can say without a doubt that the Friday Night and Saturday were really enjoyable. It was brilliant to speak to fellow collectors who up until now most had only been corresponded with. Special thanks to Michael for bringing his selection of Rare Cuffs - keep me in mind if you ever want to sell them!
Jenny would like to thank Siska and Nele for their company and the interesting and enjoyable time exploring the Brocantes and shops.
