#1If you were just starting out, as we all did at one time or another, how would you begin a collection in handcuffs?

#2Henry-I'm new to the world of handcuff's but I have had a couple of interesting experiences. First, decide what you want to collect. It sounds simple but it really helps to focus in one area. There are several great books and of course web sites-(This one is superb). Try to be as informed as you can on each item you are trying to acquire.
Ebay is a great market place but there are some problems. Most of the sellers will know less about handcuffs than you do and many don't have keys. It is very easy to end up with an old pair of cuffs that cost quite a bit and don't work. They can still be displayed but its nice to have functional locks.
If you can find area police badge and patch shows you may find some nice items.
The cuffs that are in great shape with keys tend to cost a lot. My collection is very new and until I get a feel for what I want to add and what I will pay I have to be satisfied at winning maybe 1 out of 25 items that I bid on.
The very early cuffs (UK)with screw type locks seem to be the ones with the most reproductions. You will have to decide if you want reproductions in your collection. There are some really neat pieces that you will never find any other way.
