My Hiatts on ebay question

I am receiving bids on my Irish 8s from an ebay member without any feedback. He/she could be genuine enough, but I am a little worried they are just messing about. Should I just let the auction run and hopefully somebody else wins them or should I write and ask him is he genuine (in a nice way). Has anyone seen this bidder bidding on cuffs before??????

I contacted you regarding the key at the beginning of your auction.
(just so you know who left this).

Out of 16 bids 11 are from the same person but I’d be inclined to give this person the benefit of the doubt.

I think this is a case of new bidder syndrome, which to some degree or other we have all suffered from in the past. I remember the first few item I fancied, I'd check on the items several times a day and if my name wasn't on the top I’d bid again. Obviously all this does is drive the price up..............good new for you.

I didn't think they'd make the buy it now price but they do look rather nice so even if the buyer backs out I'm sure the second place bidder will step in.

I assume we are talking about 'georgebestlegend'...

Had I been a casual observer/bidder, I would have shy'd away from your auction thinking that "georgebestlegend" was a shill bidder, either yourself or a friend bumping up the cost. Perhaps other legit bidders are thinking the same thing?

He/she/it seems suspicious to me. With a Dec.14/05 start date and no feedback of any kind, I would say you will wind up with a NPB on your hands.

One can't always predict these types with 100% certainty, but personally I would cancel all their bids, then block them from future bidding.

This could also be a good member but using a name he has never used before, although an experienced user would have contacted you first so you wouldn't be suspicious.

If this is someone who has dealt with you before and for whatever reason is pissed off with you for something else, then they may have other names they can use to really attempt messing with you. You will have to babysit the auction, especially in the last minute(s) or seconds.

You might want to ADD to the description "Bidders with 0 feedback please contact me before bidding; I reserve the right to cancel any bid for any reason"

Another thing you can do is lookup their contact information, see if the name rings a bell, or verify the contact info somehow.

Let the auction run out. I had the same scenario last week and it worked out fine. You have two solid bids at 180 and 188, so offer it to them, IF something happens. You can get the fee back and relist. Not really a big deal.

When a $3.00 Houdini token sells for $100.00+ last Sunday, things like this happen.

I took your advice....I blocked him. I have had trouble with new bidders in the past just bidding and then saying they either dont want them or else trying to get discount. I cancelled his/her bids but I am not sure whether he can bid again or not....are they automatically blocked now I have cancelled their previous bids?

I am sorry I confused you so much regarding the key at the beginning of the auction. I think I confused myself... The key that comes with the cuffs is the exact one shown in the picture...Sorry about the confusion.

The bidder whose bids I cancelled contacted me and was less than pleased. He does not appear to be the most pleaesant of people. I tend to think that my decision to cancel his bids was a good idea. He does not appear to be too old as he writes in phone texters language....CYA L8R type.

This gives the bidder an oppertunity to file a complaint against the seller, even if he would not have paid he now has the oppertunity to paint you as a bad seller.

In future auctions you need to state in your auction that bidders with less than a 10 (or whatever #) feedback rating needs to email you first before placing a bid, if they don't then you can cancel their bids.

After all we all had 0 feedback at some point and a seller took a chance on us to prove ourselves.

Following up on Kevin's big sales, I had an auction end last night for a Boy Scout patch from 1989 that went for $156 the same guy won another of my patch auctions for $42.
