Another Handcuff Case, Case???

greetings ,I have another odd ballhandcuff case maker C.A. Hoffman & Son , I have have two addresses, One Los Angeles and the other Arlington .
can anyone help pin down the era they made police equipment at the two locations.

Hi again, this is an easy one, Hoffman & Sons also made the best clamshell holsters I have in my collection, outstanding leatherwork. The L.A. cases are from the mid 50's, the Arlington cases were near the end of the company's run and are from about 1964 to 1970. The Hoffman gear is harder to find but also seems to have lasted better and restores easily.

It appears that Hoffman got the dies and equipment from Stanroy as that is the next sighting of the Clamshell, I suspect they moved the stuff down to LA from Bakersfield as Stanroy's equipment is nowhere to be found here.

Hoffman was the first to actually mark their stuff "Clamshell". That was just a vernacular up here. The term went away when Safety Speed took over.

So what he has is the earliest non-Stanroy era case.

I just got home from a trip up to N. Cal. and through due diligence have been able to prove my previous posting almost completely wrong and shed some other light on Tim's post.

In Yreka, I picked up two Clamshells in antique stores.

1. A Stanroy (Bakersfield, of course), K-38, 6", dated 10/52 and marked "CLAMSHELL HOLSTER". It looks as though "CLAMSHELL" was overmarked over Speed or Safety or whatever the current law enforcement boo boo of the day was dictating what a holster should feature (some days you have to be fast, directly thereafter you can expect that you have to be careful - oh well).

2. A Hoffman & Son (Arlington) 38MP (S&W M&P), 4", dated 8/55.

So, that means Hoffman was in Arlington as early as 1955 and it means that Stanroy was the first to mark them as "Clamshell" (as early as 1952), not Hoffman.

Didn't find any handcuffs, though. Where are all those things, anyway?
