Winchester WN 40

I am looking for feed back from members regarding their feelings about Winchester Handcuffs.

Also what are your remarks about the "American" brand of cuffs.

I'm just starting out and would like to have as many different makes as possible without spending too much.

I've gotten bitten a couple of times on Ebay by not knowing what are toys and garbage etc. but I'm learning.

Hi Ron,
I'm new to handcuff collecting too. The Winchesters are decent modern cuffs that are no longer manufactured. I have seen them on ebay go for over $50. You can still find them at police supply dealers for under $25 plus shipping. I think that people would like to hope that they will become the next Colt, hard to find expensive cuff, but right now they are pretty easy to find. You can't beat the price for a no longer manufactured cuff.

As far as ebay, the biggest problem I have found on is that some of the sellers will leave out information(Many don't know any better)about the condition and or functionality of the lock mechanism. I recently bought a pair of Tower Beans in which the seller posted three blurry pictures. When I got the cuffs they had never been cleaned or oiled. The good thing was the lock and release were perfect. I cleaned them up and ended up with a pretty nice addition.(photo attached) I'm not sure the seller wanted to show the flaws but his feedback was 100% which is a sign that they would probably stand behind a reasonable complaint. Don't be afraid to ask questions. I probably should have asked for a better picture but the seller said that they worked great and they do.

Both the Winchesters and the Americans are reputable cuffs. Americans are my favorite US pattern cuff. They took more care to break the sharp edges than some others.

I think you'll find this forum to be a good resource for handcuff knowledge. There are some REAL experts here.

Ebay can be funny. It provides worldwide exposure to a lot of products, so you can bid on stuff you'd have a hard time finding elsewhere. But descriptions of condition are often subjective, and many "junk dealers" don't really know what they're selling. The honest ones admot it. The real crooks lie through their teeth.

As always, Caveat Emptor. Be sure to ask questions, and don't hesitate to contact the seller if you feel an item was mis described. Most will stand by their stuff.

Also new to collecting, but I'm with Dennis. My favorite US cuffs are American Handcuff. In case you're unaware, the Winchester WN40 was manufactured in Taiwan, but I don't consider that a drawback as much as an artifact of build outsourcing. They are very well made and nicely finished. If you're interested in acquiring a pair or two at a reasonable price from a trusted source, I would suggest an immediate visit to Discount Handcuff Warehouse. I also would advise run, don't walk as I suspect they're about down to the last of their retail stock.

There are two sizes of the Winchester Leg Irons. There is the regular sized and the Oversized model. All models have been discontinued and are going to get hard to find.
I have an extra Oversized one to trade or to sell.
If any US collector was intested in purchasing it, I would sell it for $40 with shipping included. It is brand new in the box and is complete with all the packing and 2 original keys. If you are from out of the country, please email me.
