Collectability question

I'm pretty much concentrating my collecting right now on the swing through designs since I can't afford the really old ones anyway and I'm just getting back started. What are some of the most collectable swing through designs? Is Crocket and Kelly pretty well at the top or are there more collectable and valubale ones?

The Crocket and Kelly cuffs are only about 25 years old. They are not very nice and rust very easily. A good curiosity to have in your collection, but I would not pay much money for them.

What are some really good swing through cuffs to try to obtain for my collection. I like the look of the last model of Harvard cuffs shown in your gallery. I kinda like the look of those star handcuffs that one of the memebers of this board has listed right now.

Are there any swing through designs that are exceptionally well made when compared to S&W or Peerless?

Dear Tim,

I agree with Joe about the Crocket & Kelly handcuffs. There are a several much nicer swing-through handcuffs to collect. Why not try get the very first swing-through handcuffs ever made; the original Peerless handcuff made by Smith & Wesson in 1912. See enclosed picture.

Hi Tim,
There are many collectible swing throughs of excellent quality to collect, and many at not a lot of money. From looking at my collection, which is by and large the more "modern" designs, here are a few names you might look for. Hiatt made quite a few models before the curent issue 2010's, and you can find these all the time on Ebay or , if you are also a cop, from contacts over in England. They are usually eager to trade for a nice pair of Peerless or Smiths, or have several pairs and let them go pretty cheap. Other brands, or distrubutors include Sile New Police, Guardian Handcuff Co. , HWC , JayPee, Federal Labs, Sirche, American Munitions (later American Handcuff) , Star, Astra, Chief of Police, and numerous others I am sure I am forgetting. On the pricier side, you have to get a pair of Colt's. They have the smoothest action, much like the famous Python .357 mag revolver. Start with variety and watch for the bargains and before you know it, your wife will hate you and the spare bedroom will look like a dungeon!
