chubb 1k70 cuffs &keys

hi all

I've got a key for a chubb detainer or 1k70
but this key is not a normal one but differs from the standard key

Hi Patrick, can you provide a clearer photo. I know of only two differing keys, standardcombination and prison security combination.

The prison key is the same shape cuts but one increment lower on each cut across the key.

Hi Ian,

I was at Patrick's place today and took a good look at that key. In my opinion it's an original Chubb which didn't seem to have been modified after it left its place of origin but as I'm no key-expert, I'll leave it up to you to decide.
Next Saturday, Patrick is coming over to our place and I hope he will bring the key so I can take some clear pictures with a high-resolution camera, which I will then forward to you.

Hi, the standard key is cut as follows and I hope this makes sense.

Bolt throw section of the key, then about 1mm (approx)down to the first lever cut, then another 1 mm (approx)and then 1 more down for the third lever.

The rpison verison is bolt throw protortion, then 2mm down, then another 1mm for the second cut and then another 1mm for the third cut.

The photo ( although not clear) seems to be the reverse.

Bolt throw, thne deep (3mm? cut, then 2mm cut then 1mm cut.

This key is very different from those two which i know.

PS as Stan says, Do you have the cuff? As this key might belong to any other Chubb lock of the same key diamter size. (eg dial check lock.)

hi

the key has the following cut out
seen from the hole for the keyring

1st 1 mm
2nd 0 mm
3rd 3 mm
4rd 0 mm

I do not have the cuffs but I'm 99 % sure they are from a chubb detainer
There are no locks made (what I can found ) with the same key like I have
and the one who give me the key his father was a police officer in england
and the key has the same markings like the standard key
it says chubb on top of keyring hole on one side
and X8 on right off the other side

Thank you for the information on the cuts of the key, it make sense to me and I could make a key to that information. I just wish there was the cuffs to go with it.

It's handy info for those who might get challenged to escape from this cuff.

I may just have an answer! It is possible that you have a Chubb Metal Window Lock Key there! The X8 gave it away to me. There is a particular Chubb Window Lock, used on metal casement windows that uses a key jusy like the 1K70 handcuff. There are 12 differs, X1 - X12. When I get to the shop tomorrow, I'll see if I have an X8 key to confirm it. I don't stock the locks, as there are not many of those type of windows about these days. The current X series keys are steel chrome plated, but the original ones were brass.

Both keys had "Chubb" on one side of the bow, and the number on the other.

You'll find the lock in question here. It's a Chubb 8012 Window Lock. (One of the most expensive window locks made!)

I haven't taken a Chubb 8012 Window Lock to pieces for ages, but my guess is that they may use the same levers for the cuffs and the window locks. That way, the keys can be similar. I had a look in my workshop today, but couldn't find an X8 key to compare, but I'm pretty sure that is what you have. There is a good chance that one of the 12 X keys could be the same as the 1K70 key. If someone could post a good picture of the 1K70 key, I'll check to see. This might be a simple but sneaky way of getting the keys!

Stan...That is a little different to the Window lock key that we are referring to. The original query on this thread showed a slightly longer key. The window lock key also is longer than the photo you posted, so yours is a genuine Chubb Handcuff Key, and the other is a Chubb 8102 Window Lock key.

the key I have is just as long as the detainer key only I made a misstake with resize my pic so it looks longer and thinner
but it is the same key

I Understand Patrick. The older window locks were longer, but I came across an X2 key in my workshop today and it was the same size as the cuff key, so they made them in 2 sizes

the key for the window lock looks the same so I understand the "misstake"
it could be even a window lock key
Í don't know for sure
nobody does the only reason why I ask here is that it is a strange cut out for a chubb key

Thank you joe for putting up the picture I sent.

The photo shows all the three key combinations as discussed in the thread above. Should be better to follow than the written decriptions of the key cuts. The photo of the prison and unknown key are modified from the photo Stan kindly posted and are not of actual keys but as a guild only.

and this key I've never seen before the other 2 I've seen many times
so is it really a window lock key or is it ......
