I was given a pair of handcuffs from my Father in law recently and I was wondering if anyone could 1. give me alittle info. on them and 2. Where I can purchase a key for them. I have looked on the internet for info. but I can't seem to find out more specific information about them. This is what I am able to read from the cuffs....Froggatt....78......I'm not sure if this is correct or not but the letters.... H I R D ?. Also on the ends of each cuff are 3 A's stamped on them with circular marks going around the letters.
It doesn't matter to me if they are worth anything or not but I would like to know what year they may have been made and to get a key for them to see if they will open. Then I would like to display them in my home.
If any one can help me out , I would appreciate it. I'm going to check with our local library and then some book stores.

You might start by reading the article on Hiatt handcuffs on this forum. The best information you are going to be able to get is the book "British Handcuffs" by Joseph Lauher available at Cannon's Great Escapes. Link to it from this forum.
Value could be anything from $60 to $260. First you have to figure out what you have. The "HIRD" stuff is HARD The level of quality of your particular cuff.
Not super rare, but always a good item and fun to have in your collection. Probably 100 years old, or more.

Froggatt handcuffs were made for just over 100 years. Starting about 1830 the company lasted until 1937 when it was sold to Hiatt.

You might try Cannon's Great Escapes. They have a variety of keys. Alternatively, Ian McColl of this board, can make you a key for damnear anything.
