I just returned from Indy. Drove 500 miles in the rain today - No fun.

But the meeting was great! We had a good turn out of handcuff folks. Many escape artists from the USA, Canada and England showed up.

Ian we missed you, but everyone really liked your Fenton handcuff. James Peters from England managed to get out of it. Congratulations James. I hope your hand recovers soon.

Mario Manzini gave a great lecture Saturday afternoon. It was both informative and totally hilarious.

The Saturday night banquet awards: Tom Carrier, President of Escape Masters, presented special awards to Bill Shirk and Mark Cannon for their many contributions to the field of escape. Way to go Bill and Mark.

Then Mark took over and presented this year's Silver Cuff award to Dean Gunnarson.

Following the awards it was on to the show. An all star escape artist reivew with: Joe Fox, James Peters, Margarette, Shawn Ness, Kristen Johnson, Mario Manzini and Dean Gunnarson. It was a great show.

Joe was his normal crazy self and broke Houdni's record.

Yes indeed we did tape the entire show including my escape. Please understand that we are only willing to share tapes of my escape as we do not have the permission of the other escape artists involved to share what they did.

To anyone who sees the escape please understand that that is a very condensed version. I worked long and hard on my own and with Mark to scale it back to the asked time frame as I, along with all the other performers, wanted very much to help him out. This meant cutting any examination of restraints and the search with a metal detecting wand.

I could easily have won the most nervous award! I don't think anyone has any idea just how nervous I was that night. Just hand me a glass a milk and you got a milkshake! Although, I think George liked his kiss. He still had the lip prints on his cheek after the show. Joe Fox and Sheila Cannon can confirm how nervous and in a panic I was during the day on Saturday, and James can confirm just how bad my hands were shaking after I sat down after my performance.
I had a blast at the convention. It was great to see some of my old friends, and as always, meeting new friends. Joe, I also loved those little cuffs that fit me. Did they bring out the color in my eyes??
You know, if these conventions keep getting better and better, I'm anxious to see what next year brings!!

I finally managed to get into this board. I was starting to think that Joe Lauher was mad at me and put up some kind of cyber-block. Wow, what a great weekend! Everyone was in the best form and lack of sleep was a small price to pay for memorable conversations and get togethers.
Highlights for me? Well, the usual "lets keep Joe Fox awake party", which this year was moved to Friday night, right after Kevin and Kristen opened thier home to us for a great party. Joe Lauer's quick room party earlier in the day was cool too - soooo many plug 8s on one table!
Seeing the only pair of Ruttiman handcuffs.
Seeing great dealers tables and some very nice prices as well. Spent more money than I thought I would.

Man I wished I would have went to this. I have to plan for next year. Just hope there's more of those good deals next year. Just a question, is most everyone there escape artist or are there some who just collect as well? I used to be quite a good escape artist for a local guy - escaped from a regulation posey straitjacket for instance - but by no means a "hang from a burning rope kinda guy" and now I pretty much concentrate on collecting. I certainly am not up to any challenges.

Tim

The convention was held in conjunction with a long running lock show, so overall there were many more collectors present in Indy, than escape artists.

However, if you look at those participated in the escape artist portion of events, most of the events discussed here, you will find that the majority were escape artists. Of course most of the escape artists naturally become collectors as well. And some of the collectors like me have a strong interest in escape and have even given public performances in the dark distant past.

But the main thing is that everyone gets along and shares their ideas and enthusiasm. It is a very friendly group.

I just returned from Indy. Drove 500 miles in the rain today - No fun.

But the meeting was great! We had a good turn out of handcuff folks. Many escape artists from the USA, Canada and England showed up.

Ian we missed you, but everyone really liked your Fenton handcuff. James Peters from England managed to get out of it. Congratulations James. I hope your hand recovers soon.

Mario Manzini gave a great lecture Saturday afternoon. It was both informative and totally hilarious.

The Saturday night banquet awards: Tom Carrier, President of Escape Masters, presented special awards to Bill Shirk and Mark Cannon for their many contributions to the field of escape. Way to go Bill and Mark.

Then Mark took over and presented this year's Silver Cuff award to Dean Gunnarson.

Following the awards it was on to the show. An all star escape artist reivew with: Joe Fox, James Peters, Margarette, Shawn Ness, Kristen Johnson, Mario Manzini and Dean Gunnarson. It was a great show.

Joe was his normal crazy self and broke Houdni's record.

James warned us: "Caution this product may contain nuts." and then he proved that it did.

Margarette won the elegance award (totally beautiful!)

Shawn might still be in his body bag, but he survived the fall

Kristen is still picking up strange gentlemen from the audience

Mario used 100 feet of rope and showed us why he is the "Worlds Greatest Escape Artist"

Dean climbed into a box he had never seen before and showed us why he is the "Worlds Greatest Escape Artist"

Overall it was a tremendous show. Mark and Sheila you did a great job once again. We all thank you so very much. You two are definitely the "Worlds Nicest and Hardest Working Escape Artist Team." We appreciate your efforts very, very much.

Finally a special note to Michael Griffin, winner of last years Silver Cuffs Award. Michael could not attend due to unforeseen difficulties. Michael "We love you. And we wish you all the best."

So the convention was great. Pictures will follow.

Hi, just wanted to let you know, I have thoroughly enjoyed the video of the Indy show 2004. What great entertainment! Joe Fox was hilarious with his breaking Houdini's record routine. Margarette was fascinately elegant and music just fitted the piece beautifully. James Peter was very good with his strait jacket, and (I got the British humour in the moments that the audience didn't) Shawn Ness has an excellent choice in music and his routine plays in well with his character. Mario Manzini, a fast talker and a fast escape artist. Dean Gunnarson's performance of the Diamond Steel plate box was fantastic and his play off with the deputy sheriff was the best. Very funny stuff and the serious escape was great. I wish I had have been there to witness it live.

Hi gang. I know that this is months late, but I wanted to thank Mark & Shelia Cannon for having me as their guest lecturer at the 2nd annual Escape Artist Convention in Indianapolis, IN.
It was so great to finally meet Bill Shirk & Dean Gunnerson as well as all of you that were there.
