How many Oregon Boots are thought to exist?

Are you referring to how many different types there are or how many were actually made?

I'm more interested in how many actual sets were made. Figure I could use that to determine how unrealistic my pipe dream is.

How many Oregon Boots are thought to exist?

I have 4 somewhat different Boots in my collection, and would like to know where you have seen 2, 3 and 4 boots in collections. I'm not sure that knowing how many are out there would determine the current price. I've seen a few sell in the last 5 years in the $ 2000 to $ 2500.00 range. Boots were made by different manufacturers over the years, with Art Burnside in Sopokane Washington to be the last one to make them in the 1930's. He also made a few in the 1950's for dealers in old handcuffs and magic apparatus to sell. Many were probobally sold as scrap or donated to the scrap drives during WWII. I've never made a count of those in collections. Maybe other colelctors can post here how many they have.

As an answer to Stan's question; I'm lucky to have one of them. Not sure, but I guess my set is one of the earlier, plated and marked PAT MAY. xx .76. The date is not readable. The weight is 6 kg which should be about 13,5 lb. I do have the original key but not the original support, mine is made by Ian McColl.

My question wasn't really pointed at trying to determine value. What I was trying to determine was an amount of actual sets of Boots produced - for example, if there are only 20 Oregon Boots out in the universe, then I am clearly never owning one of these amazing pieces without being legally opted by one of you fine collectors.

But, if there were upwards of hundreds made, even with a good portion being melted down during the War, I may actually have a chance in this lifetime.
