S&W Model 94 question

Ok, I bought a pair of Smith Wesson model 94 handcuffs with no key. I know on CANNON’S GREAT ESCAPES, replacement keys can be bought, and the site states that the "N" key code is the most common.

Now my question, how do I know which key code I have?

My cuffs have no stamping of any letter in them at all. Some model 94's I've seen have had a letter stamped in them.

Dose no letter stamping mean I have a "N" key code?

Normally yes, many of the common 94's which used the N key had an A stamped on one of the arms.

If so the N stamped key would work, if not you could still acquire one of the (only) 16 posible combinations of the keys and your cuffs could be worth much more to someone.

If I am going to shoot in the dark and buy a common "N" key is there anywhere else that may be cheaper. or is $20 the going rate. (I'd hate to throw away money) and if the key don't work will I be able to resale it for $20 and recoup my losses?

I had the same problem when I bought my first pair of Smith & Wesson 94 cuffs without a key.
This is what I did.
Cannon’s sells a [4] piece set of pick tubes that will open any of the [16] combinations for the Smith & Wesson 94 cuffs for $45.00. Unfortunately I still didn’t know which combination I had.” but I was able to open the cuffs”
Then I bought a booklet called “How to open handcuffs without keys” by Desert Publications 1979 ISBN: 0-87947-120-4 on the internet. On page 39 it shows all [16] combinations, with corresponding letters
I matched up the right configuration to the letter in the book, and then ordered the key from Cannons.
I know it might be more money than you wanted to spend, however in the long run
I can buy & open any Smith & Wesson 94 cuff regardless if it comes with a key or not. The book is a good read also.
