Hi,
I have lurked around this site for a while since I have an interest in handcuffs from when I was a kid-have no collection yet! Among other things, my work involves some use of chain for lifting loads. To me the link chain linking regular handcuffs or ankle cuffs looks rather thin, even a bit weak, and I wonder if anyone can tell me what the official loading or breaking strain is? Also the belly chain used on prisoners looks a little flimsy. I'd appreciate some information, or where to find it.
Thanks,
Carmen.

as its weakest link...

Under extreme strain, the swivels generally fail fist. I recall how sometimes subjects under the influence of drugs have actually snapped the swivels on brand name cuffs, which have been improved on recent models.

Getting back to your original question: if memory serves correctly, I believe the chain strength is around 550 lbs. direct pull.
