Joe,

Thanks for the posting! You are right; there have been amazingly many nice cuffs to buy in recent time.
In an earlier posting I have been complaining there is nothing to buy on eBay anymore. From November last years until now there have been surprisingly many nice handcuffs for sale. During this short time span I have bought many more rare handcuffs than bought for two or three years in total. It seems like the good time is back for us collectors.

hi

there are also extreem high price on these cuffs
for me with a family (wife and child) it is to expensive
it is crazy how much they pay for some cuffs
also some actions ending early because some of the collectors let them end early they make a deal to the seller
and oh my lord if it happens to them the world is to small

for me if the cuff prices rise I 'm not abble anymore to get a piece for my collection

Hi Michael,

Yes, I do. I owned the same cuff some years ago. It was bought in a antique store in the Czech Republic by a friend of mine. These cuffs are most likely of Czechoslovakian origin. Later I traded it with Stan and it can be found on his CD.

The unusual Czech folding cuffs appear to be very rare. Mine and the one on ebay are the only 2 I know of. Does anyone else out there have one ? The markings on mine are identical to those of the pair on ebay, and 2 people in the Czech Republic have told me that the markings are definitely Czech.

While many cuffs on ebay do sell for very high amounts, these are generally rare pieces. There are still many old collectible cuffs at a reasonable price on ebay, and if you look hard enough you can find good cuffs from antique dealers and at shows.

stan you're right there are many other cuffs if you look hard enough
and yes these are very rare items
but what I want to say is if we all pay high prices because we want more or beter or nicer cuffs than al the other collectors then it would be a never ending story and the price rise so high that there is no fun in collecting
it is only then to make more money
for the one who sent me an email it is not only direct to you but to more people and all off them know what I mean in fact we are all quilty with that isn't it

Thanks Stan and Lars for your input in the above handcuffs. I did see them and bid on them and had originally thought they were an August Schwarz folding model. My main reason being that the key which seems to be for a 2 lever lock looks very similar to the early Schwarz DP model + the arrows by the keyway.
I am now confused about the swinging bow August Scharz models, Tom Gross shows what appears to be two swinging bow patterns. Neither of which I have ever seen.
I assume these swingbow models were only made in very small numbers are are now highly desirable.

Does someone know what the markings V.T.K. on these Czech folding cuffs stand for?
Is it the name of the manufacturer?

Ebay hasn't been this good in a long time. I had fun
bidding on many items, but unfortunately didn't win any
of the above. I certainly wouldn't have minded winning one
or two of those, but as we all can see they are fetching
some pretty good prices out there. Great post Joe!

Joe,
I just love the montage of noteworthy cuffs that you have done on this thread.
I hate to cause you more work, but I wonder if if would be possible to be able to link each of the cuffs to the eBay page. In other words, if we were able to click on the blue item description for each cuff in the montage, it would take us directly to the auction. I know that the item would only be viewable for about 90 days, but it would be a great reference aid.
If not, the auction number would be the next best thing.

I have a feeling that those prices - especially on the 2nd batch - would have been a little higher if European bidders were allowed. There were several items I was interested in and I would have paid more than the eventual winning bids, but was either ignored or told not to bid or that they would not ship to Europe (or outside the USA). I have been excluded on 5 recent auctions where I was determined to win.

I know there are many reasons, but sellers are getting less than top price by cutting out the rest of the world.

I like these listing as well and if I can manage my time I will try to keep them coming. Eventually they should be moved to a permanent place and handcuffs.org.

Mark you suggestion for link to the original is a good one, but unfortunately there is no good easy way to do that. I would have to edit them one at a time just to get the eBay number, then the forum does not allow thumbnail links.

You will will just have to buy them all.

The same is true of European sellers not wanting to ship to the US. I think the US sellers don't lose as much money on their sales as the European sellers who won't ship outside of their country.

in case you ever should need an address in Germany where to get your cuffs shipped to, just let me know, I would be happy to help out. This way I could at least handle some nice cuffs and perhaps take some pictures.

Mark, could you please bring the rare Hamburg 8-style cuff with you to the next convention? I really would like to see it.

yes, I will be there and I will bring my wife and my son with me. We already made the registration with Mark and Sheila and have the hotel room reserved, and I also count the days.

In fact I do not know yet whích other German collectors will be around, does any of the German forum members already have plans?
