Prov. Tool Co. Leg Irons

Hello fellow collectors,

I recently purchased a pair flawless working leg irons by Providence Tool Company from a private civil war auction. As we all know, these are "must-haves" for The Collection. However I ended up paying $350.00 for them as I was thinking "must-have" as the bidding rapidly grew. I've seen bidding end on Ebay for about $250.00 or so. Is this a purchase I could have made for less, had I not fallen to my weakness? Thanks for the info on value.

Isn't this a question you should ask before bidding ? I think you overpaid by at least $ 100.00.

Unless there was an original key.
That would up it $35 to $50 IMHO

The key is original, but I thought the final price was kind of high. I've never paid that much, but I posed the question because recently I've been seeing restraints from 1860's to 1870's raising in final price even on Ebay. I guess it's a moot point anyway because the damage is already done. Thanks for the feedback.

Hi Kris,

according to my database the last eBay auctions for Prov. Tools Co leg irons ended as follows:
- 126 EUR (approx. 155 US-$) Leg irons in good condition
- 397 EUR (approx. 500 US-$) Handcuffs + leg irons in good condition

You shouldn't worry about paying too much for your pair of leg irons, because you used your opportunity get them. You never know if or when there will be another chance to buy that restraint and you don't know how much it will cost that time. Therefore be happy with it

The condition is very important. If your leg irons were indeed flawless and with original key, then they are worth $350. Indeed a really nice pair might be worth more.
