#1Seems we may have a bit more info on the English handcuff maker who marked their products SMCo.
In 1919 a company called Security Manufacturing Co was granted a patent (no. 127216) for improvements in the way handcuffs are produced. They claimed the part where the chain attaches to the bow could be produced in one mechanical process (rather than having to make a hole in the bow and hammer the peg into it).
Certainly this date of 1919 fits in well with the SMCo cuffs I have, my heavy Plug '8' cuffs are dated 1917. Until a few years back it was easy and cheap to get copies of UK patents but they now want £25- per copy! Does anyone have a full copy of this number?
