It seems that I have caused some insult to the members of this forum. I recieved the following from JNPTAN@aol.com:

"wow !! it is disappointing ONCE AGAIN to see someone who ONLY wants FREE info from other collectors just to turn around & slap them in the face by not offering said item to THEM -- FIRST !!! -- what a man you are... glad we don't have many like you...... and your shipping costs !! again -- wow !!! i would not be surprised if you do not get a single bid !!!"

As I expressed to this person, who did not sign their e-mail, I was unaware that the information I was seeking had a cost. I assure any and all interested in reading this that my intention was not 'slap' anyone in the face. It has been my practice to only offer items for sale over eBay beacuse of the protection one gets. I have not had good experiences in on the side transactions. Had I known that there was an expectation for me to offer this item to this group first, (of course, I had consulted others prior to happening upon this site, so perhaps my sin is even greater) I would have had to consider my request in the first place. As for my shipping cost on the item I listed, due to weight and my location, it is not a small matter to send things in the mail internationally.

No need for you to apologize. Tanner is the one who should apologize. The forum is free and is for anyone interested to share handcuff information. It would be nice if you would ask if anyone is interested in buying the leg iron, but it is not a requirement to post here.

I know that you, and Yossi off site, were the only people on this site who offered me any information as to thevalue of them.

If you bid on the item and win, let me know it is you and I will pay all shipping costs on the item.

I also ain't see no offend, that was caused by you. I fully understand that you want to gather some information about an item and its value before offering it at eBay. Nothing wrong with this. And I do not understand, why somebody has a problem with you doing so… especially if this person frequently sells handcuffs at eBay himself. Well, it is better for us collectors, if a seller is unaware about the value of his restraints and places an auction with very short description and maybe some bad pictures - so, we can better make a bargains .

Once again: IMHO you did nothing wrong - no reason for an apology!

Seems that I recollect that Mr. Tanner did not put together his great collection. His father in law, the late great Prynce Wheeler put it together and left it to his daughter Pam, not his son in law Joe, who ended up selling it off piece by piece. That makes me wonder where your status ranks as a true "collector".

It seems that I have caused some insult to the members of this forum. I recieved the following from JNPTAN@aol.com:

"wow !! it is disappointing ONCE AGAIN to see someone who ONLY wants FREE info from other collectors just to turn around & slap them in the face by not offering said item to THEM -- FIRST !!! -- what a man you are... glad we don't have many like you...... and your shipping costs !! again -- wow !!! i would not be surprised if you do not get a single bid !!!"

As I expressed to this person, who did not sign their e-mail, I was unaware that the information I was seeking had a cost. I assure any and all interested in reading this that my intention was not 'slap' anyone in the face. It has been my practice to only offer items for sale over eBay beacuse of the protection one gets. I have not had good experiences in on the side transactions. Had I known that there was an expectation for me to offer this item to this group first, (of course, I had consulted others prior to happening upon this site, so perhaps my sin is even greater) I would have had to consider my request in the first place. As for my shipping cost on the item I listed, due to weight and my location, it is not a small matter to send things in the mail internationally.

As such, I am sorry if I have offended anyone. I did not intend to grab "FREE info from other collectors just to turn around & slap them in the face by not offering said item to THEM -- FIRST !!!" I am not a collector myself, so I was not aware that that I had committed this faux pas.

Reading this really disappoints me. The only contact I've ever had with Joe Tanner was a few years ago as he responded to an email from me about how to clean handcuffs. He was very informative and polite. I'm not only disappointed in the fact that the forum turned into a verbal Hapkido match for someone wanting to apologize. Let's not lose sight of the fact why Joe(Lauher} has this forum for...to learn and contribute, not get into an exchange of insults as THERE ARE OTHER SITES ON THE NET FOR THAT. Let cooler heads prevail.
