Leg iron

Hi, I have been a collector of vintage cuffs since 1998, and a long time forum reader. This is my first post. I have a Romer cuff in my collection attached with its original chain. Instead of the chain being attached to the other cuff (which is missing) the chain runs through a 10 inch eye bolt and the chain is secured to the eyebolt with a old padlock. The padlock is the unknown factor with me. It has a darby type locking mechanism on the side of it and I use the key from a pair of Thompson cuffs to open it. The eyebolt obviously was in a detention facility wall and period to the cuffs. Anybody have info on this type of padlock? and or the facility that would use the restraint in this manner?

If you purchased this from an Ebay auction in the last 2 years it was originally owned by myself.

The description sounds the same as one I sold.

I had this particular item for a number of years and got it from a dealer in the U.S. who said it had once been anchored into a cell wall at ankle height.

The padlock is likely any one that happened to be on hand to fasten the half iron's chain to the anchoring ring bolt.

If memory serves, the padlock is British.

I wish I could give you more info on it but it was not mentioned to me which holding facility/jail/police station it had once been part of.
