http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... :IT&ih=010

Of course I don't know the difference between a set of S&W Model 90 handcuffs with an S stamped (By Anyone) in the bow versus a set of 938 Stainless Steel set of Handcuffs.

Oh well, believe who and what you may!! Thank you for your consideration; Sincerely Bartles & James !! I miss those commercials!!

No, sadly, it is not a joke:

Let me explain.

Sellitall4moola dose not believe that any model 938 Stainless Steal handcuffs were factory stamped with an "S" by Smith and Wesson. Although all the experts agree that two different variations do exist, one: S stamped on the bows, two: S stamped on the back of the lock case across from the SN#.

He believes that any handcuff stamped with an S is just a model 90 that either was stamped by a end consumer in an attempt to defraud someone or a set of model 90's in stainless steal.

Which neither is the case. A set of 90's in stainless is a model 938, just like a pair of 90's in aluminum is a 925 or 926.

Please see http://www.holstcollection.com Lars Holst's site will confirm that yes, 938's were stamped with and S. And although Yossie's site shows a hard to see picture, his too are stamped with and S.

I own two 938's both stamped with an S.

What started this whole thing, is when I tried to very politely talk to him about a set he had on sale on ebay. They were listed as a 938, but looked very, very polished, enough to pass as a 91 (by the pictures only having never seen in person). So I emailed him asking if a S was stamped anywhere on them and that to my knowledge the only 938's I knew of were stamped with and S. And that he might have a pair of 91's, but that I could be wrong. Key point " I could be wrong"

I was just simply trying to be nice, what it got me was a very angry seller who posted a big deal about 938's stamped with and S not being 938's but 90's and so on, on the actual action. Yea, right on the bottom of the auction. And now this comment above, which is almost a month later. Not sure why he is so angry about it.

But he is wrong, maybe he will admit it one day.

I've handled several S&W model 938 over the years, and they were all stamped with an "S" on the movable bows. A Stainless version without the S would be unusual. As far as the 1960 is concerned, I can't tell for sure what it is.

I tend to agree and his nick here and on ebay says it all to me. I don't really buy the story on the Hiatt's copy of the model 1960's either. What about those cheap knock off's of the old Fetters. Rather crude in construction to me and lack craftsmanship compared to the Fetters that were made over the years.

Hello All,

I really have to ask (James D.) where is it that I claim NO S&W 938's where ever marked with an "s" ??

FACTUALLY What I stated is that there is no proof that ALL Model 938's were ever stamped with an "s" throughout their production. And this is supported by Numerous collectors who have 938's marked with an "s" and those who have them without an "s" and are with their original matching factory box.

What I've Actually Claimed or Believe which James has distorted can be found here:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0077413766

I take exception to your alleging that you politely contacted me to discuss my item. NOT !! You flat out told me What it was I was selling was a pair of Nickel plated handcuffs and Not Stainless Steel ones!

Your polite conversation with me was almost identical as this piece of (BS) inaccurate information which you pass along in your ebay Listing for item # 140102090564 >> "The 938's were stamped with an "S" to distinguish between the standard nickel plated steel model 90 and the stainless steel model 938. Many sellers on ebay are claiming that the pair they are selling are stainless when in fact they are the nickel plated model 90. don't be fooled this is the real deal. The "S" proves it !" <<

James D. should Edit his listing to Reflect the Truth that is known about Stainless Steel S&W's in the model 90 pattern; that Some have an "s" and some Don't. The only person who needs to admit to being wrong is Mr. Jimmy D.

As for the cowards who continue to hide behind anonymous names or identities such as Skeptisini; I ask, what kind of character do you have or represent?? Certainly NOT the kind that I have proven in my dealings with others here and elsewhere! What I sell on Ebay or via this forum is exactly What I say it is. My integrity and Honesty Is Very Well Established Unlike the anonymous cowards!

Thank you Joe for allowing this discussion.

Quote from that very auction he has provided us:

"It is my theory that S&W handcuffs that are marked with an S on them which denotes Stainless is actually still the Model 90 not a Model 938 because I have not found solid proof that the Model 938's were in fact ever manufactured with an S Stamping throughout it's production. One would have to logically question why would a manufacturer produce and market a second handcuff Model the 938 and not change the style versus just continuing to stamp an S onto the Cuff or in the Serial of the Model 90?? Logically an S stamped/marked in the serial number or cuff body would on a S&W handcuff denote stainless steel and such a marking would in my opinion make the handcuff a Model 90 not a Model 938??"

This is all in his own words

Oh and yes, my question to seller, question was very polite.

once again I said "to my Knowlage all were stamped with an "s" and that his may be the still very collectable 91's, but that I may be wrong"

I did not say: (that he was selling plain nickel plated 90's as he says, and I was not rude, maybe he got me confused with one of the other buyers that questioned him, like his auction says)
