Tower Double Lock Handcuffs A.V.D.

Hi everyone, I have a question for all you Tower buffs.....I picked up a pair of, what appears to be, Tower Double Lock handcuffs with the initials A. V. D. stamped very clearly by the bow hinge where the patent dates are sometimes stamped. The stamping looks like it was done at the factory where these were made and doesn't look like it was done by someone with a letter stamp set in his/her garage. Does anyone know what these initials stand for? I have included a picture below, but it was taken before I started restoring them, so you can not see the initials on them just yet.
