Handcuffs or metal mittens?

Help, I do appraisals in so. cal. I was giving a talk today about collectibles and a guy brought in what could best be described as metal mittens. They are definitly some type of hand restraints. They have a hinge across the palm, the hand top and thumb tip are open. I assume to accomadate different sized hands. They have a ratcheting device at the wrist with a small lock. The two are attatched with a chain. They have a 1925 patent date, but no brand name. Anybody know what these are and what they might be worth??????

Your Metal Mittens are "McKenzie Mitts". They should be the same as the 2 shown on my web site at www.handcuffsandbadges.com See the center picture on the home page. A nice pair recently sold on ebay for $ 2600.00
