Help! Are These Real or Fake or ??

Hi Everyone,

As you may have guessed from the title, I have no idea about whether these handcuffs are new cheap copies or antiques or what they are. My husband recently retired from police work and was given these by a cousin of his as a retirement gift. They were given to the cousin by a friend of his. Are they worth selling or throwing in the trash?

She wrote to Stan as well. I hope you will continue with anything that I did not mention.

The 3 similar leg irons were made in India or Pakistan and was originally thought to be reproductions or decorative pieces. Often the links are made of threaded rod.
They are actually pretty strong and they might be actually used on prisoners.
Matching handcuffs do not seem to exist however.
To answer your question, I really can't say with certainty if they are fakes or not.
They are not worth much more than $75.00 or so.
The fourth leg iron is a puzzle lock leg iron and often sold as slave shackles.
Some collectors are under the assumption that these are horse locks. There are many many of them out there, so they too are not worth much.

I disagree:
Why would anyone pay $ 10.00 for this JUNK, much less $ 75.00 for all 4 pieces? The only reason some of it sells at all is that sellers say it is "Civil War" or provide some other misinformation to increase the price.
When the ones with the threade rods first sold at Fishermans Wharf for $ 3.00 each, they were advertised as reproduction Leg irons. This is the first I've heard of them actually being used by law enforcement.

Thanks, Stan and Mark, for your help. I figured they were probably some kind of "reproductions" but my expertise is in horses and saddlery, not handcuffs, so decided to go to the experts!
