I thought everyone might be interested to know that Yossie has updated his site to include a bunch of patents. There are some neat entries that aren't cuffs per se, but locks, clamps and restraining devices that have potential cuff applications ie. a dual milk bottle holder that looks like a handcuff-nipper.

It is certainly great to have easy access to all the patents without having to do an individual search.

So here is my question. What percentage of these patents ever led to a commercial product?

For those unfamiliar with Yossie's site, the patents page URL is http://www.blacksteel.com/hcs/index.cgi ... on=Patents.

As a bit of patent trivia, the page lists a few 1990s patents issued to Geoffrey W. Cross. Mr Cross is the chairman of Hiatts.

To find the year any US patent was issued based upon the patent number, use http://www.uspto.gov/web/offices/ac/ido ... suyear.htm. The entire US Patent Office database is searchable at http://www.uspto.gov/patft/.

Many years ago when I was a teen, I spent alot of time researching patents at the patent office. Based on what I saw in the search stacks under restraints, I would venture to say about 80% or better actually was produced. Recently, going though the online database, I have seen alot of improvements on designs, but very few actual whole system design. Of those, many went into production...
