Hi all:
I have had a few inquiries regarding the bean giant I have listed twice before and not sold.
Due to the wording of the ad several collectors thought the bean giant was either a fake used for magic, or gimmicked to ease escape or something else.
I want to clarify for all fellow collectors the cuffs have never been tampered with. They are in 100% proper working order with both buttons and locks working perfectly and strong. The cuffs come with a "reach key" which is what the magician Ernest Williams of Lynn, Mass used to effect his escape.

The item comes along with some provenence showing Ernest posing with the same cuffs.

why is there a Rust stain on one of the Bean Giants is there two sides or three sides that are being shown. also what is the Reserve on the Bean Giants. and will they be relisted a fourth time. i for one wont be re-bidding again on these because they keep getting relisted.

The FWSM cuffs are somewhat special for the collector. First, although we know they are British, no one knows anything about the company. No one knows when or where the cuffs were manufactured. They do appear to be older than most Darby cuffs and were likely manufactured in the early to mid 19th century.

Although the cuffs are strong and well made, they were not made with the care that most other companies used. Most notably the links on each cuff to the swivel are placed at rather random locations, seldom centered. And like the pair you are selling the two cuffs often do not match.

As a matter of fact although we all call the company Fitzwilliam and Son (or Sons?) Manufacturing, I don't know of any real evidence that this is the actual name. Although I have no proposal for an alternative. I have one cuff that is clearly marked FWS and not FWSM, so if the M stands for Manufacturing, then perhaps it was a later addition.

So your cuff will be an interesting addition to anyone's collection. Good luck with your auctions.

Joe: I was always under the impression that it was fitzwilliama and sons
with the histories involved over there its probable that the names changed every few years or so with mergers or partnerships
i agree with the construction issue, i dont think i have 2 pairs of fwsms that are exactly alike in fact i have one where the bows are bent

It is quite difficult to get photos of bright plated objects that do not pick up some color from the background or the lighting technique.

Mr. Griffin:
How about putting on every listing if a original key or other key is included, rather than being evasive about it. By setting a high reserve and the item not selling on ebay, you save the ebay selling fees if you then sell it off ebay.

Due to the large number of restraints being listed some keys are being found after the listing and I try to include them, sometimes i include other little surprises ie: orig boxes, etc heck one collector I even sent some cuffs as a gift without warning
Its a fun thing really
