Canadian extreme escape artist Steve Santini, who performs professionally as, "Santini: The Dark Master of Escape" will present what is being promoted as the "Most Extreme Escape of the Century" this July 28th in Owen Sound, Ontario.

This dangerous and never before attempted escape
titled, "Destination Valhalla!" will be presented as a highlight of Owen Sound's 150 year anniversary "Homecoming" celebrations.

Santini, named "The World's Most Extreme Escape Artist" by the legendary Ripley's Believe it or Not and who is world famous for his original hardcore life and limb risking escape stunts will be chained, manacled, and locked in a wooden box perched atop a wooden raft anchored in the Owen Sound harbour.

Kerosene soaked brush will be piled up against the sides of the wooden box and Santini will have 3 minutes to escape his chains and the box before torches will be thrown on the raft turning it into a blazing funeral pyre.

"Destination Valhalla!" was inspired by the funeral rites of the ancient Vikings who would cremate the bodies of slain warriors aboard burning rafts pushed out to sea.

The date for the extreme escape attempt is July 28th, between 10:00 and 11:00 in the Owen Sound harbor between the Marine and Rail Museum and the grain terminals.

This escape is sponsored in part by “Helium Wake” radical wakeboarding vests and also the Swedish powerhouse metal band, “SERPENT” who have recorded an original hardcore tune to be used in part of the stunt.

Preparations for the escape get underway at 10:00 PM.

BTW, I heard the new Serpent song, "Destination Valhala" and it is giving "Pit and the Pendelum" a run for it's money! However, if your music taste is along the lines of Slim Whitman, you wouldn't like it. =P

Thanks for the well wishes Cindi and Michael.

This escape, "Destination Valhalla" is turning out to be the one single escape I have done that has been in the planning stages the longest.

It has literally taken 6 months of planning, research, and red tape cutting to make it all come about.

For those who may do escapes on a much smaller scale such as regular platform magic type acts or at other down sized venues you really would be amazed at all that goes into planning such a large scale escape in the "new world".

Especially an escape that takes place on a Federal Government waterway that is used for heavy shipping.

There have been environmental impact studies because we are burning diverse materials, insurance and audience liability concerns of a huge magnitude because there are expected to be over 20,000 people in attendance, permissions and permits from Transport Canada for the use of the Government controlled waterway, and a million other odds and ends that had to be sorted out.

I swear, my crew and I have been so darn busy with all of the permits and red tape that we have yet to work much on the actual methodology of the escape itself!

When presenting such a large escape one really needs to have experience behind them and the ability to properly plan and prepare efficient outlines and papers for the "powers that be".

Otherwise one will never even get a foot through the front door.

Happily, my Cremation Chamber escape in Toronto on New Year's Eve 2005 put many minds at ease as it demonstrated our ability to present large escape spectacles with the proper degree of planning, professionalism, and safety.

It certainly has made the road easier in many ways.

Michael, I would be happy to use a creation from your workbench for this escape and we have given it serious thought. Sadly, leather does not react well with water and if I use something you made for me it may very well be damaged in the end.

Oh well, I guess you are always up for making more items, right?

Hello,
it is easy to know how some magic tricks are done. There are a lot of books or instruction videos about it, also for escapology. But there is a big difference to know how to do it and to do it really. Have you ever performed some easy, little magic tricks in front of an audience? I have done some magic tricks at a meeting for some homecinema freaks. Tricks are very easy, but performance was hard to do and had to be practiced several days. So i can imagine how much work is done for professional performances.

Of cause there are always tricks, there is no "real" magic like Harry Potter... So it was a geat performance from Santini - and dangerous, don't do this at home!
