Hiatt model/year - Help please

Hi all
I was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about these handcuffs such as value, model name or estimated year of manufacture. They only have the following marks: HIATT, British made.
They appear to me to be hand forged, but I am not sure if they are antique or vintage.
I would like to sell them on ebay, and had listed them as vintage, but they were removed by ebay and I was told I could only list antique handcuffs. So it will be great if they are antique, but I would like to be sure as I do not want to mislead anyone.

hi kelly, they look to be from the 1950's or 60's, the clue is the "british made" part stamped into the cuffs, this was only done on the latter hiatt darbies, as to value, condition is everything, these look as though they may have been plated once, (again, most latter made hiatt darbies were), so they are not in great condition, i would guess a value of between 40 to 60 pounds, it will be interesting to hear what other collectors think!

Kelly i Don't see why you can't sell them as Antique. they are possibly 40 years or older. plus there are people selling ReProductions as Antiques.

Heh, Anonymous - Kelly is trying to be above-board and honest with this transaction. If they're vintage, that's how they should be offered. I they're antique .....!!
But I think that £40-£60 could well be top of the range!

I was told I could only list antique handcuffs.

Then list them with just the estimated year of manufacture. There's plenty of cuffs in that age range on eBay.

If you include Hiatt Darby Handcuffs in the title, you'll get action.

I think most people search on keywords, rather than categories.

Hiatt made this particular casting up until the early 1980's.

I.E. Ferrous steel.

So basically, it would be best listed as "Vintage Hiatt handcuffs, no longer made".

Is the delicate nature of the locking bolt hole in the bow arm.

Not as wide as on earlier models and thinner to be sure.

Not to mention the style of key and a pile of other indicators.

Thank you all for your help - much appreciated.
I will put them in the antique category, as Genuine Hiatt Darby Handcuffs and then in the description say vintage -year unknown.
I know they are pre 1970 because they were brought out from Africa in my grandfathers toolbox, and that was in 1970.
