There is no meaning in french. La Massenotte is written with a capital L and capital M.
It is the name of the manufacturer like RIVOLIER or LYON PRESTO.

I only know the origin for the name of one of the other french companies:

Manurhin (still in businnes today, but afaik not producing handcuffs anymore)

It's a abbreviation derived from the complete company name:

Actually I think they used the same lock manufacturer for the lock cylinders and I believe it to be Lowe & Fletcher based on the profile of the key and keyway. I'm curious who was the manufacturer of the first Rivoliers with the wafer lock.
