#4..... (my ten-year-old yelling down the hall)...."MOM! I need the key to the handcuffs! I've locked myself to the chair!"
Then again, knowing who his mother is, it shouldn't surprise me!!

Gee, I would have just told the kid that story I will always remember and keep reminding you of, regarding you and your brother and the handcuffs. Let the little one work on them.
More curious though, why did that happen? How did that happen. Was he just playing with them and didn't expect to need a key? That doesn't make much sense. Or was he playing with hem and they tightened to far unexpectedly.
Be honest, I know you let him out, but did you laugh?
I think I shared with you all years ago the story of the "Screwed-up" handcuffs that I gave Ian.
Apparently one of my students found an old pair of his security guard grandfather's cuffs in among the old man's stuff. He then wrestled his younger brother down, and with no regard for even the existence of a key, locked him in. I have no clue to the situation, hands in front or behind, but freedom was a very real issue.
When dad came home he drilled out the keyholes. I guess he thought that would open them and it didn't. He then stabbed the now wide open keyholes with something till he effectively picked the locks, probably not realizing what he had done.
The drilled out posts is what led me to call them "Screwed-up"
Hopefully your little one learned a lesson from this experience.
