As I'm sure you know, the other model is on restricted issue, I doubt whether there are many of us who have a pair in our collection?

I can do no better than quote from their own literature:

"One of the UK’s leading specialists in the management of challenging, disruptive and violent behaviour across all sectors, including; health and social care, transport, public services, retail, airlines and security."

In other words they design and market (amongst other products) restraint equipment, particularly for use in close environments - such as aircraft, hospital wards/waiting rooms .... you name it, there's a chance their equipment will be there (low-profile of course!).

The basic design of their restraint gear is nylon strapping, supplemented with cuffs, either rigid, plastic or of course Detainers. And the oversized ring is required to allow for passing the wide nylon straps through, which are then attached to a seat or other suitable fixed object.

Will look forward to seeing these cuffs when you next visit Mike, they do take the standard Chubb Arrest key (these are identifiable by having a round bow key).
As far as I know there are at least 3 different keys that Chubb use - although in theory there are 80 possible keys.
The restricted issue keys have a square bow to them and I only know of 3 in private collections - unless someones knows differently!!

Thanks for your interest in this one everybody. Apart from the messages here, I've received a number of emails - and supplied information as appropriate.
Several of you have asked about the differences betwen the standard and restricted Detainers - well outwardly the only difference is that the restricted are serially numbered and the keys are shaped differently.
Here are the 2 models for comparison, standard at the top, restrcted at the bottom (and the serial number [not shown!] is on the cuff on the right of the picture on the reverse side):

A large central link has been used historically for handcuffs and leg irons for forming a gang whereby a gang chain was run through the link on each cuff/iron.

Hello! I'm hoping you can help....I am working on a TV drama and we need a pair of the Chubb 1K70 Arrest Handcuffs to use as a prop urgently. We have purchased some similar but the producer wants the real thing as he feels they look really sturdy and these are the ones that are used by the prison we are filming at. I have phoned and emailed Chubb but am yet to receive a response and unfortunately I need to get hold of these by Friday 8th May 2015 at the latest as we are having some soft replicas made and the prop makers need them to model from.

Could any of you please tell me where I might be able to get some of these at very short notice (I am in Manchester) and I would really appreciate any help you can give me.

Are these cuffs available anywhere for sale ?

My Chubb detainers that have 1 ring, came in an airline passenger transport restraint kit, that included straps. There have been a few on Ebay recently, believe harrytasker still has some up for sale.

The single ring cuff, was made for one special security company out of the U.K. I sold two of their "Airline Disruptive Passenger Kits" on Ebay, about a year ago. That was all I had to sell. The Chubb Detainer (arrest) cuffs, do come up for sale. But, those being sold, usually have the two chain links and not the single ring, as shown. The two that I sold are 2 of about 4 that i have seen sold through Ebay, in the last several years. This is a pic of what the kit looked like. They no longer sell the kit, as far as I know. They now sell a similar kit with Rigid cuffs or zip tie restraints.

I've never figured out though 'why' .. I thought maybe that  they replaced the two links with a larger middle one to connect the straps to, but that's not what the instructions say. Possible someone considered that at some point, or just an 'undocumented' feature, since passing something through the ring and tying it under the seat would add to the restraint...

LOL.. read a couple of pages... that will keep me busy on this snowy day... TY! :)

James, the red strap, goes around the upper arms (bicep area) and buckles behind the airplane seat. That holds the person's back against the back of the seat. Then, with his hands cuffed in front, you attach the clip on the yellow strap to the single ring and pull the yellow strap, under the bottom of the airplane seat and attach it to the yellow seat belt pice that hangs from the red strap where it attached behind the seat. Then all is pulled tight. The person is firmly strapped to the back of the seat, around his biceps with the arms down and the cuffs are pulled and held in his crotch, by the yellow strap attached to the single ring. It really is a quite secure restraint system.

LOL.. ok totally a 'DUH' moment from me... I read the words on the instructions and it never said that, so I didn't get it... now I've studied the pics, I can see it, and it makes perfect sense... I admit that I've never actually tried to restrain anyone to an actual seat with this thing and it may have been obvious had I done so :)
