Rare Finnish handcuffs

Maybe some of you are interested to see some rare Finnish handcuffs. I acquired these cuffs on a trip to Finland this week. All Finnish handcuffs are high quality manufactured products, definately in the level with old German handcuffs. The seller promised me to gather all possible information about Finnish handcuffs. Hopefully this will result in an article about Finnish handcuffs in next year Handcuff Annual.


These Peerless style handcuffs are manufactured in Finland and have been used at the infamous Kakola prison in Åbo. Both cuffs are marked VANKEINHOITOLAITOS which in English would be something like ”National Penitentiary System”. Grooves on one side of the moving bows only.


Konepaja Voima, this is a factory manufactured bar version. The cuffs are stamed “Konepaja Voima Helsinki” and the patent number “12928”.


This is a small "Kakola" handcuff version, considerably smaller than the other one in my collection.


Finally we have this Hugo Stanley handcuff. These cuffs take the same key as for the Konepaja Voima and the H&R Super Handcuff 123. They double lock by turning the key CW. I was told that only 1.000 handcuffs were manufactured. They were sold to the Finnish army by the time of WWII. Joe L has a nice one too!

Not this time It's not an aprils fool joke. Just some nice findings. The weather in Sweden is so bad that I had to leave town. But, I wouldn't afford another trip for some time.

Hubby was in Sweden a few months ago and declared Stockholm his favorite city. He said the weather was moderate, but the Swedes stayed bundled! I will be going there again sometime in Autumn. Didn't see much last time, but I'm making a point to on this trip. I went to Finland recently, too (and Estonia). Maybe we'll meet someday in the airport or on a plane!
