Your description is not very complete, but most likely you have a Hiatt Darby. With the British Made mark they would have been made sometime between the 1920s and the 1950s.

The picture you are showing is a Hiatt Back Strap Darby. I have never seen one that said British made. All the ones I have seen are too old to have that mark. So are you sure that of all the Darbies on my site, this is the one that matchs your cuff?

But to answer you question. A common Hiatt Daryby, marked British Made would sell for about $60.

Nice Darbies! Beautiful dark brown patina finish, nice key.....if they are in good working order, my guess as to it's worth is about $100.00-$125.00 USD.

They look nice, but your photo leaves out one tantalizing detail. Take a look at the hinge. Does it have a backstrap, laid along the bow as in your first photo? Or is it a loop forged into the end of the bow? If it's a backstrap, it may be worth some serious money.

Look at the hinges on the canned photo you posted. Notice that the moveable bow, the chunky bit the key screws into, has a square hole on one end. The fixed bow has a strap that goes through the hole, and is bent back along the outside of the bow. That strap and hole make up the hinge.

The tab that lies along the outside of the cuff, is the backstrap.

That is an old method of construction. The newer cuffs of the same type had interlaced bosses forged on the ends of the fixed and moveable bows, connected with a pin. They looked more like a modern hinge. It required more precise fabrication, as the hole was drilled, so the newer style of fabrication didn't realy come in before the advent of more modern machine tools.

If yours has the typical pin rivet, the cuffs are probably worth in the hundred dollar range. If they are backstraps, then they are probably worth more. I believe it was Joe that said he had never seen a backstrap cuff with your markings, which would make them worth even more.

The devil, as always, is in the details. Details are the bane and the glory of collectors. We can agonize over the shape of the ampersand (&) in "Smith & Wesson."
